BLOCK ASSEMBLY PROJECT USES PRECISE 1/4” SEAMS. TEST YOUR SEAM ALLOWANCE BY CUTTING (2) 2-1/2” X 5”RECTANGLES. STITCH THEM TOGETHER ALONG THE 5” LENGTH. AT THE MIDPOINT, MEASURE ACROSS THE UNIT. IT SHOULD BE EXACTLY 4-1/2” WIDE. IF NOT, ADJUST YOUR SEAM ALLOWANCE AND REPEAT.

FINISHED SIZE: 45” X 53”
FINISHING Cut batting and backing 3” larger than top on all sides. Layer backing, batting and top together and baste or pin. When quilting is completed, trim excess batting and backing. Bind as usual.
12. Sew (1) A 2-1/4” x (50”) border strip to each side of the quilt top. Sew (1) A 2-1/4” x (44-3/4”) border strip to the top and bottom of the quilt top.
Block 11. QST Units – Draw a diagonal line on (1) A 5-1/4” square and place right sides together with (1) E 5-1/4” square. Sew 1/4” away from either side of drawn line. Cut along the drawn line, open and press to yield (2) HST units. Make (10) AE units. 2. Draw a diagonal line on the wrong side of (1) HST unit. Place right sides together with another HST making sure that A fabric is against E fabric. Sew 1/4” away from either side of drawn line and cut apart to yield (2) QST units. Press and square to 4-1/2”. Make (10) QST units total.
3. Sew the QST units into a column, as shown. Strip should measure 4-1/2” x 40-1/2”.4. Small Flying Geese units – Draw a diagonal line on the wrong side of (1) A 2-1/2” square. Place square, right sides together, in the corner of (1) E 2-1/2” x 4-1/2” rectangle. Sew along drawn line and then trim 1/4" away from sewn line. Press open to the corner. Repeat with (1) A 2-1/2” square in the opposite corner to complete (1) AE Flying Geese Unit. Square to 2-1/2” x 4-1/2”. Make (6) AE Flying Geese Units. Repeat steps using A 2-1/2” squares and F 2-1/2” x 4-1/2” rectangles. Make (4) AF Flying Geese Units total.
5. Sew (2) Flying Geese Units together into a row along the short sides. Make (3) AE Rows and (2) AF Rows. Set aside.6. Large Flying Geese unit – Repeat Step 4 using (1) B 4-1/2” x 8-1/2” rectangle and (2) A 4-1/2” squares. Square to 4-1/2” x 8-1/2”. Make (5) AB Flying Geese Units total.
7. Heart Block – Using Flying Geese Units and (2) 1-1/2” x 8-1/2” rectangles, sew together to complete the Heart Blocks. Square to 8-1/2”. Make (3) ABE Heart Blocks and (2) ABF Heart Blocks.8. Sew strips and pieced block rows together as shown in Quilt Diagram to complete the quilt center.
9. Sew (1) A 1-1/2” x (40-1/2”) strip to each side of the quilt top. Sew (1) A 1-1/2” x (33-3/4”) strips to the top and bottom of quilt top.

10. Sew (1) B 2-1/2” x (42-1/2”) strip to each sides of the quilt top. Sew (1) B 2-1/2” x (37-3/4”) strip to the top and bottom of quilt top.11. Sew (1) F 2-1/4” x (46-1/2) border strip to each side of the quilt center. Sew (1) F 2-1/4” x (41-1/4”) border strip to the top and to the bottom of the quilt center.C
