Objectives Communicate key campaign messages to the

public members within the chosen counties.

These messages will be used to mobilize the citizenry to engage with their elected County leadership through the IRunThisCity! fora on website (www.irunthiscity.org), social media (Facebook, Twitter) and mobile telephony (SMS short code).

Insight Citizen participation in local governance involves ordinary citizens

assessing their own needs and participating in local project planning and budget monitoring.

It is important for improving public resource management and reducing corruption, by making public servants and political leaders accountable to the people.

For citizen participation to work, transparency of government information is needed, as well as the inclusion of members into decision-making from groups whose concerns are being addressed.

Excluding the weak and powerless from decision-making is a cause of poverty because it denies them rights and creates unequal power relationships.

Creative Idea Think about those times when an urgent expense seemed to come out

of nowhere in an instant. Maybe you needed to make a repair so you could keep going to work each day. Perhaps something vital in your home needed to be fixed or replaced. It's Christmas, the in-laws 'vote' to celebrate it at your place and to be honest, you are a little strapped for cash. How about when the baby decides to come a few weeks too early and it just so happens to be that dry spell of the month!?

Getbucks understands that unexpected things happen, and payday may still be too far away for you to get the money you need now. That's why we offer online loans that can help you make it through a difficult time, if approved.

On-Air Mechanic

• This will be activated on TekeTeke with Mbusi and Lion for a period of 4 weeks (1-week for each county)

• The presenters will start a conversation regarding the recurrent issues affecting the county of the week placing emphasis on why it's about time citizens began to play a more pivotal role in addressing and prioritizing problems in their county. There will be three ways to contribute to the conversation:

– Website; www.irunthiscity.org – Twitter: Twitter.com/irunthiske and #IRunThisCounty– Facebook: Facebook.com/irunthiske– SMS short code 22214 (sms charged at 1/-)

• Callers will be expected to tell us what part of the county they come from, what they do for a living, who their elected representative is and how they think the county government should go about addressing particular issues affecting them.

Talk-Up

• The following will form the talk-up points for the promotion:• The rationale behind IRunThisCity• The various platforms that can be used to engage your fellow

citizens and elected leaders• The newsmaking issues affecting the county of the week• The fact that we need to start suggesting solutions to issues

affecting our neighbourhoods rather than sit back and leave it to a few people in government

• That unless we speak up, our elected leaders will continue to run the county as they please

Online Mechanic

TekeTeke will start an online conversation that complements what's going on on-air

• Contributors must then post their tweets in response to the tweet by TekeTeke

Tweets must include the tag @irunthiske, #TekeTeke #IrunThisCounty

Criteria for choosing a 'winner' will be based on IRunThisCounty Factor – 50% Compliance to Mechanics – 30% Retweets/Favourites – 20%

Page 10: IRunThisCity

Incentives

• Contributors to the conversation will be invited to the live forums • They will be picked from callers, social media and short code users.

Page 11: IRunThisCity

Mechanic Justification

On-Air• This mechanic empowers members of the public to not merely stop at

articulating their problems, but also suggest possible solutions to these problems. Why? Because they run their city.

This will stimulate dialogues as well as audience participation in order to generate ideas and solutions to problems and, ultimately, propel communities to action.

• IRunThisCity is an affirmative claim. There is therefore a need to link the livelihoods of the citizens to the welfare and growth of their neighbourhoods.

Online• TekeTeke was a nominee for the Social Media Awards (SOMA)• Possible entries into the live forums ought to demonstrate that they can

constructively contribute to the IRunThisCity conversation
