Read the sentence. Then write the helping verb and the main verb in the correct column. If there is no helping verb in the sentence, put an X in that column.
It is important to stay with the same verb tense unless there is a good reason to change tenses.
Incorrect Trevor collects leaves. He will keep them in a container. Correct Trevor collects leaves. He keeps them in a container.
Incorrect Last week, he found a new leaf. Next week, he wrapped it. Correct Last week, he found a new leaf. Next week, he will wrap it.

Identify and Write in the Active and Passive Voices
Verbs
Verbs may be in the active or passive voice.
• A verb is in the active voice if the subject does the action.
The mayor delivers a speech. The mayor’s assistant wrote the speech.
• A verb is in the passive voice if the subject does not do the action. A verb in the passive voice uses a form of the verb to be (am, is, are, was, were, be, being, been).
The speech is delivered by the mayor. The speech was written by the mayor’s assistant.
Read the sentence. Underline the verb in the sentence. Then circle whether the sentence is active or passive.
