Launch OverviewLaunch OverviewThe imageRUNNER ADVANCE (iR-ADV) C5051/C5045/C5035/C5030
Series models are part of a brand new product offering at Canon.
To better understand the concept of imageRUNNER ADVANCE, it is important to take a look at the evolution of our Imaging Systems
Solutions.

History of imageRUNNERHistory of imageRUNNER
1970 -
Canon's first plain paper copier
1994 -
world's first automatic duplexing
colour
laser copying solution
GP line of products in the 90’s –
consolidate office equipment more efficiently with the ability to combine
printing, faxing, and scanning capabilities into a single system.
In 1970, Canon introduced the NP copier line. It was a stand alone copier and allowed users to perform walk-up operations.
imageRUNNER ADVANCE C5000 Series Product Launch Presentation 7
Launch OverviewLaunch OverviewThen, in 1999, we introduced the imageRUNNER lineup and added even more unique functionality into the system to respond to user’s needs, such as saddle stitch finishing and Universal Send capability. In addition to the functionality we added to the device, we also introduced CanoBureau, imageWARE
software and MEAP technology to integrate custom workflows.

Auto Gradation AdjustmentAuto Gradation AdjustmentThe iR-ADV
C5000 Series models include similar technology as imagePRESS
color control technologies to help prevent a shift in the hue and help
set and maintain a low delta-E.
Gradation & Density Adjustment (Test Print) – Performed in Full Adjustment
•
Test prints stored in memory are printed on separate sheets, each of which is scanned from the scanner to measure and adjust the actual gradation patterns.
•
This will adjust the max density point of the toner based on the white point of the paper.
Gradation Adjustment (ITB) – Performed in Full/Quick Adjustment
•
CMYK gradation patterns stored in memory are registered onto the ITB, and then the sensor measures the actual gradation of each color to adjust the measured results to the precise patterns.
•
This will not adjust the density of the toner but will not recreate the max density point as white point will not be re-created.
imageRUNNER ADVANCE C5000 Series Product Launch Presentation 44
Real Time CalibrationReal Time Calibration•
Uses sensors to measure the density levels of toner•
Measurements are taken every 100pages during the job or if less than 100 page, every post rotating after 70pages printed.
Capable of measuring the absolute values of inaccuracies in gradation and density by using color patches registered on the transfer belt surface so toner density is adjusted in real time, which helps to render images more faithfully without compromising the overall productivity.
imageRUNNER ADVANCE C5000 Series Product Launch Presentation 45
Auto Toner ReplenishmentAuto Toner Replenishment1.
Calculate the optimal amount of toner to maintain consistency2.
Detects toner density and density of color patches registered on
the surface of the photosensitive drum
3.
Controller sets the amount of toner for actual imaging

Advance Security ModuleAdvance Security Module
•
TPM (Trusted Platform Module) is a standard security chip with the tamper resistant hardware installed in all imageRUNNER
ADVANCE models. •
The TPM provides the facilities for the secure generation of cryptographic keys and serves to encrypt information stored onto the internal HDD and decrypt information read from the internal HDD.
•
Incorporating the TPM into the imageRUNNER
ADVANCE provides users with firmer protection of the system configuration such as device passwords, login ID, or certifications to prevent unauthorized device access and vulnerabilities both on a physical and network level.
•
In the event that the HDD is removed from the device, retrieval of data on that HDD would be very difficult since the encryption key for that data is stored in a separate location within the TPM.
Trusted Platform Module
TPM must be turned ON in Additional Functions. It is important to back up the TPM key in the USB memory in case of TPM board failure.

Administrators can set automatic document privileges and apply security policies by creating Policy Protected PDF files created at the device, even after document creation, utilizing the Adobe LiveCycle®
Rights Management ES Server. •
Once a Policy Protected PDF document is created on an imageRUNNER ADVANCE, upon attempt by a user to open a protected PDF, will contact the Rights Management Server to check the latest authorized users, expiration, auditing and watermarking policies set by the administrator.
•
These latest policies will then be enforced by that application to ensure the information in that document remains secure.

Optional kit that enables the ability to embed hidden tracking Information such as User Name, Date/Time and Device Name on the background of the copied and printed document.
•
In addition to storing the above originating information for tracking purposes, the hidden tracking information can contain policies which determine whether or not the resulting hardcopy can be re-copied or scanned at any imageRUNNER ADVANCE model equipped with
the Document Scan Lock.

•
The Document Scan Code Analyzer for MEAP allows system administrators to track who, when and with which device the document was copied or printed by simply scanning the document containing the hidden tracking code on the
device. •
Only authorized personnel such as a system administrator can lookup the tracking information found within the hidden tracking code on the document by entering the required password.
•
This feature allows departments to track of where copied/printed
output document was originated and help stop information leakage.

Environmental Aspects
imageRUNNER ADVANCE C5000 Series Product Launch Presentation 135
Environmental AspectsEnvironmental AspectsCanon places a strong emphasize on green technology and cares about the environment in every phase of the product lifecycle. With the imageRUNNER
ADVANCE
C5000 Series, we will have an even stronger environmental focus than in our current product line to improve the carbon footprint.
These products incorporate a new bio-based plastic material. This innovative plant-derived material will be used on some of the exterior plastic parts and is expected to reduce manufacturing-related C02 emissions by approximately 20%. A number of elements have been incorporated to reduce waste, a smaller and lighter design of the product as well as the controller board, which has been significantly reduced in size.
In addition, the imageRUNNER
ADVANCE
C5000 Series will consume less energy, in some cases as low as 1W through the use of innovative Advanced Color RAPID Fusing Technology and other energy saving features, enabling Canon to meet and even exceed the new 2009 Energy Star standards and guidelines.

New pQ
Toner reduces fusing temperature by 68 degrees Fahrenheit
compared to past models which leads to the extremely low energy
consumption.
All Models are Energy Star Qualified• 75% power consumption reduction in 1 week TEC (C5051 vs. C5185)

30% Reduction in CO2 emission
Canon focuses on improving resource efficiency and reducing our demand for raw materials at the design stage (and lowering our carbon footprint).
Life Cycle Assessment System
The imageRUNNER ADVANCE models are the first
to implement Canon’s Life Cycle Assessment (LCA)
designing system
A system which assesses and seeks to control carbon
emissions at each lifecycle stage ‐
power consumption,
materials, and logistics, etc.
Helps reduce overall carbon emissions by more
than 30%.

Abolition of cadmium (electric contact)PVC‐free electric wireHalogen‐free print boardLead‐free in mechanical metallic parts(1) Lead‐free free‐cutting steal(2) Lead‐free brass steal(3) Lead‐free aluminum
Cadmium Reduction•
RoHS states that more than 100PPM of cadmium used in the contact of electric parts is allowable. Canon has minimized
the usage of cadmium to 100PPM or less in the contact of electric parts.
Halogen-free Printed Circuit Board•
Canon is advancing the adoption of halogen-free printed circuit board instead of printed circuit boards
containing halogen substances
that are normally used.
Lead Reduction•
RoHS allows more than 1,000PPM of lead in metallic parts made from steel, copper, and aluminium materials. (Up to 3,500PPM in steel materials, 40,000PPM in copper materials, 4,000PPM in aluminium materials)
•
However, Canon has minimized
the usage of steel, copper, and aluminium materials to 1,000PPM or less of these metals in the mechanical parts (except for electric/electronic parts).
•
Canon uses Lead-free steel and brass to exceed RoHS guidelines.
Advance support of laws and regulations that exclude the use of hazardous materials
