Our approachFinding the right person for the right job is nevera simple matter of placing pegs into holes. Thechallenge is more like that of a complex jigsaw.Without detailed knowledge of the whole picture,an unsuitable piece may be inserted, and the solutionnever reached. IPS appreciate that only the rightcandidate, uniquely shaped by their skills, experienceand personality, will offer a perfect fit.

At IPS, our approach to recruitment is neverprescriptive. Instead of adhering to received rulesand standard practices, such as blanket cold callingto gather new business, our approach is one thatencourages the individual initiative of our staff, andhas resulted in a great number of clients seekingto work with us. AdvertisingAdvertising is clearly an essential tool in sourcingmany of our candidates. For the benefit of our clients,and to serve all of our various specialist divisions,IPS has its own dedicated advertising team.

The consultants that comprise IPS Advertising offera fast, efficient and highly professional service to ourclients at home and overseas. We maintain close,daily contact with the advertising managers of theleading professional services journals, nationalnewspapers and internet job boards, allowing us toplace advertisements at very short notice if necessary.In some cases we are able to offer subsidisedadvertising to our clients, passing on considerablesavings when compared to general rate cards.

We are willing to offer guidance on the format andwording of advertisements, or to design and writethem on a client's behalf. In fact, our service normallyincludes the free provision of artwork, and the correctpositioning of each within the most appropriate printpublication or digital media.

From a single, one-off advertisement to an extensive,integrated campaign of multiple assignments, no taskis too large or small. As part of the normal advisoryservice IPS offers on personnel matters, we can alsoanswer any issues relating to salary levels andemployment benefits to help clients maximise theeffectiveness of their advertising.

Insurance Personnel SelectionInsurance Personnel Selection is thebackbone of IPS Group and has beenoperating within general insurancerecruitment since the company’sformation in 1970. It was one of thefirst to specialise in this sector.

From our offices in London,Birmingham, Leeds, Manchester andSouthampton, Insurance PersonnelSelection commands a strongreputation in both the domestic andglobal insurance markets. We drawour consultants primarily from theinsurance industry, with hands-onexperience of management, broking,underwriting or claims handling.

The breadth of skills shared by ourteam enables us to source candidatesfor a diversity of clients and roles.These may be broking houses andunderwriting agencies, or companieswho are involved in all classes of director reinsurance business, either at homeor overseas. Each consultant mayspecialise in recruiting for a particularlevel of seniority or area of the market,but responsibility for co-ordinatinga complete recruitment programmeusually rests with one consultant, actingas the principal point of contact.

Executive search and selection canprove a sensitive, uncertain andtime-consuming process to undertakealone. But working with IPS, our clientshave the advantage of our wealth ofknowledge and invaluable contacts.We are able to provide a secure,adaptable and highly confidential routeto identifying and recruiting the bestavailable candidates.

Wherever possible, one of ourconsultants will first meet the clientto gain a detailed understanding of theirrequirements; including the demandsof the position, its background and theimpact on the existing team. SearchTo search, or “head hunt” a candidate,we would analyse the marketplace,identify those key players with therelevant attributes, and invite eachto be considered for the appointment.Our consultant would then conductinterviews with those who areinterested, evaluate them, and providethe client with a shortlist and writtenreports on those we believe bestmeet their criteria.

SelectionThe selection method involvesadvertising the positions, then choosingand interviewing the most suitableapplicants. Our IPS Advertising divisioncan administer the entire process,including drafting and designing theadvertisements, negotiating fees withthe relevant media, and managingresponses. We would then conductinterviews to prepare a shortlist withreports on each applicant, and offer ourown recommendations.

Should it be desired, we are able toprovide psychometric testing, arrangeassessment centres, or seek anindependent view from a CharteredOccupational Psychologist. At the finalselection stage, our consultants canarrange for medicals to be undertakenand for verbal and written referencesto be checked.

Although our clients will contactIPS Executive for specific assignments,they will also come to us for moreinformal requests or discussions.These may concern unbiasedinformation relating to marketconditions, the availability of seniorpersonnel, or the structuring ofremuneration packages. IPS Adjusting RecruitmentSince IPS was established over30 years ago, our consultants havehad close involvement with the lossadjusting market. Our focus has beenon recruiting for all levels of technicalroles, from Internal Claims Handlersthrough to Branch Managers andDirectors. We have brought ourknowledge and experience to bearon a wide range of assignmentsconcerning property, liability,engineering and surveying.

With continued support and demandfrom our client partners in this market,we saw the need to create our owndedicated division. In 2000, our Leedsoffice became home to IPS AdjustingRecruitment, and has flourished sincethen to form powerful businessrelationships with a number of majorloss adjusting companies. IPS hasprovided recruitment solutions not onlyin the UK, but also globally, withsuccess in regions as diverse asIreland, Czech Republic, USA, Mexico,Brazil and Africa.

Increasingly, we are being askedto work on assignments for insurersand brokers looking for additionalin-house claims expertise. The rolesfor which we source candidates rangefrom home-based Claims Inspectorsworking on domestic or liability losses,through to Home-Foreign Inspectorpositions with multinationalinsurance companies.

IPS Mergers and AcquisitionsIPS Group consultants rely upon theirmarket knowledge, their contactsand the ability to satisfy our clients’requirements by providing them withsuitable employees. The first logicaldevelopment of these skills is to movea complete team to a client requiringthis degree of assistance. However,on occasions we extend our serviceto shareholders who either wish toincrease their presence in the marketby acquiring or merging with anotherbroking house.

Alternatively, the divestment of equitymay be required.

It goes without saying that this typeof negotiation has to be handled in totalconfidence. Experience has shown thatIPS Mergers and Acquisitions, actingas a third party, is often able to breakthe ice at the initial stage by providingbackground information to both partieswith a neutral location for a meeting.

Anakin Seal LegalAnakin Seal is our legal recruitmentdivision recruiting fee-earners at alllevels, from equity partners throughto legal executives and paralegals.Established in 1993, it has sincegrown to become one of the leadingconsultancies in its field, with officesin Manchester, Leeds, Birminghamand London.

At Anakin Seal we understand theimportance of recruitment in the legalmarket place. The long-term viability forany legal practice lies in maximising itsfinancial strength by recruiting the rightfee-earners at the right level.

We are able to tailor our serviceto existing or future requirements.Working alongside clients, we aimto develop a continuing relationshipwhere we can use our knowledgeof the legal market place to ensureclients secure the services of the rightindividuals. Legal Executive DivisionIPS Anakin Seal launched the firstnational division dedicated to therecruitment of non-solicitor fee-earningstaff. This incorporates fellows,members and trainees of theInstitute of Legal Executives,paralegals and other individualswith fee-earning experience.
