• The Core Standards should be the guide for teaching & lesson planning.

• As the teacher you need to understand that the Standards’ main premise is to require students to gain cognitive and social skills that will foster success in the 21st Century.

• The Core Standards main focus is on career and college readiness.

• Assessment is a huge focus for teachers as they become more mindful of what they are teaching and how they deliver their lessons.

• Another huge focus is that the Standards addresses both the core academic knowledge and complex and higher order thinking skills that reflect 21st Century themes.

• In the 21st Century we live in a technology and media-suffused environment – technology is used everywhere.

• There is not a job anywhere where you do not need the least basic computer skills; and I’ve noticed lately iPads are everywhere.

• Instruction using the iPad not only reflects the Standards but also provides students for the future.

• Using the iPad in the classroom provides opportunities for students to research, organize their work, evaluate their work and communicate what they have learned.

• Students have never been more motivated to learn using the iPad.

• These tools give the students future skills that makes them into a 21st Century Learner.

• Most importantly, students become self-directed learners, so that they demonstrate a commitment to learning as a lifelong process.
