Wednesday, July 6, 2016 10:00am-2:00pm Rosenfield Center, Room 209 Welcome • Lunch orders to Kyle • Iowa Soccer #team: Jenny, Craig, Harold, Kyle o Not here: Gareth (ODP Saginaw) • Academy/club leaders in attendance: Altoona, CRSA, FC United, IC Alliance, Iowa Rush, Des Moines Menace, Norwalk/Apex, USC and JSC, PSC Iowa, SESA, VSA, West Des Moines o Not joining or no reply: Cedar Valley, Dubuque, ISC, Muscatine Themes from survey (10:15-10:45am) • Increased oversight and enforcement of Academy standards by Iowa Soccer o hold clubs accountable • Most common “abuses” identified o Clubs intentional about forming “A” and “B” teams o Clubs don’t mix up teams fall to spring o Coaches not instructing teams to drop off/referees not enforcing drop off o Coaches allowing/encouraging GK punts rather than working ball out of the back • Need to incorporate more and better parent education about why Academy does what it does; address improving sideline behavior • Coaching education and support need to come in the form of curriculum, lesson plans, weekly communications in-season, etc. • Agreement that the Academy program is creating a better environment • Common theme re: negative aspects of current Academy programming is lack of parent education; lack of enforcement of Academy standards; low quality of and/or inexperienced referees • Consensus that Academy structure -- not without some exceptions -- does focus on development and provides for a structured and professionally-led learning environment (exceptions noted above in “abuses”) • 88% agree Festival is a positive aspect • 94% satisfied with League format in respective part of the state; 82% satisfied with six game league schedule • Academy coaches should have minimum of E License • Academy Directors should have minimum of: D, C and/or National Youth License • Your thoughts?

Academy Standards…exceptions to??? (12:45-2:00pm)
• Overwhelming agreement that clubs, Academy Directors and Academy Coaches should be required to meet minimum standards
o But over half of respondents in each instance (club, director, coach) also responded “it depends” to the question of “should there be exceptions for…?”
• Identify standards and benchmarks • Define exceptions • Process of becoming an Academy club?
