INFO-GRAPHICS TIGRAY REGION: IOM’S Eritrean Refugee Relocaon 11 March, 2015 TOTAL IOM ASSISTED IN TIGRAY TIGRAY ERITREA SUB OFFICE TRANSPORTATION AND MEDICAL CHECK UP BACKGROUND IOM Sub-office in Shire deployed two dedicated buses and a van to relocate the refugees and their belongings. IOM has assigned doctors and nurses to conduct Pre-Departure Medical Screening and health assessments which idenfies refugees’ fitness to travel before departure. IOM also provides water, biscuit and operaonal escort for all refugees. Moreover, adional medical escort has been assigned to pregnant/lactang women, children, disabled, elders and other vulnerable refugees. Following ARRA and UNHCR’s request, IOM has started providing transportaon assistance for Eritrean refugees registered at Endabaguna screening centre by the Government of Ethiopia and UNHCR since 19 December, 2014. Currently Ethiopia is hosng more than 76,000 Eritreans in four camps namely, Adi- Harush, Hitsats, Mai-Aini and Shimelba, in Tigray Region. In comparison to the number of refugees entering Ethiopia since 1998, there has been a large number of refugees entering into the country starng from March 2014, where monthly arrival rate have been registered at an average ranging between 2,000 and 2,500.
