Maximum fl exibility thanks to XTS

The demand for increased fl exibility in the packaging industry can be met and exceeded with the innovative eXtended Transport System (XTS). This extraordinary mechatronic system enables the creation of completely new machine concepts which are signifi cantly more custom-isable, compact and cost-effective than conventional solutions. Thanks to the almost infi nitely variable line confi guration and the use of freely movable carrier modules – so-called movers – mechanical grippers are no longer required and product changeovers can be implemented quickly via a simple mouse click.

Welcome to this year’s Drives and Control in Birmingham! Beckhoff is exhibiting its comprehensive range of components and system solutions for PLC, Motion Control, robotics, safety and measurement technology in Hall 3. The open control architecture of PC and EtherCAT-based con-trol technology offers maximum fl exibility to meet the ever increasing requirements in automation.

The highlight at the Beckhoff booth will be the eXtended Transport System (XTS) – the highly innovative linear transport system combines two proven drive principles into a new one. Where the possibilities to use rotary motors previously ended, XTS adds the advantages of a linear system. And where the range of use of purely linear systems has been limited so far, XTS supplements the benefi ts of a rotary solution.

CX2000 – Multi-core on the DIN rail

The CX2000 series provides increased fl exibility and performance on the DIN rail with multi-core processors and modular, extendable PC and I/O interfaces. With dual and quad core versions, the compact Embed-ded PC series covers performance ranges for which up to now Industrial PCs have been required. The TwinCAT 3 automation software enables performance reserves to be fully utilised to support complex control tasks for PLC, Motion Control, robotics or HMI applications.

Optimised multi-core utilisation with TwinCAT 3

When confi guring PC-based control systems with multi-core CPUs, the TwinCAT user can use the “isolated cores” feature to specify which cores will be visible to the operating system and which are available 100 % for the TwinCAT runtime. The advantage: Tasks with a high temporal resolution are separated from standard tasks. In this way robot transformations can be processed on one core, while the PLC is run on another core, for example.

EtherCAT Box: system-integrated measurement technology with IP 67 protection

Decentralised acquisition of measured data in machines and systems offers many benefi ts, such as reduced engineering, installation and commissioning effort and shorter response times for process events. The range of EtherCAT Box systems is supplemented by further meas-urement technology modules, for example for differential pressure measurement, acceleration and inclination measurement, or for power distribution with integrated current measurement/data logging.

Universal multi-touch panel series

With a scalable range of active and passive panels, the multi-touch panel series from Beckhoff provides for a uniform appearance on the machine. Display sizes from 7 to 24 inches as well as versions with different connections and processor powers provide the user with maximum variety and fl exibility. With CP-Link 4 further benefi ts of the multi-touch panels can be leveraged.

TwinSAFE: Universality into the drive technology

In TwinSAFE Beckhoff offers a universal safety solution from the controller to the I/O level to the drive technology. All safety functions can be programmed or confi gured via the central TwinCAT engineering platform. The range of application of TwinSAFE is enlarged by the new all-in-one EK1960 safety controller. The compact TwinSAFE Controller integrates a complete safety controller including I/O level in a compact design.

Scalable drive technology

The scalable drive solutions from Beckhoff cover a broad range of ap-plications: from the compact servo terminal to the AX5000 EtherCAT servo drive up to 118 KW. The servomotors of the AM8000 series are available in 6 sizes with standstill torques between 0.5 and 90 Nm. With the integrated One Cable Technology (OCT), the feedback signal is transferred via the standard motor cable. This enables more compact machine designs and a reduction in wiring costs by up to 50 %.
