In these villages people from all categories i.e. OC, BC, ST, SC were living side by side
These people groups are very special in some aspects and in physic. These people have their own
cultural and tradition values which is very much unique varying from adjacent people groups. Some
peculiar aspects make them separate from other Telugu native people. The Akkayapalem people are
highly skillful and most professional in their fishing occupation and agriculture. Every time they
easily get Rs. 15,000/- to Rs. 30,000/- rupees fishes by boating on the Bay of Bengal.
All their houses are pucca slab constructions with water, electricity, roads and street light
facilities. There was no huts or thatched houses seen in these villages. Economically these people are
well settled. But there is no police stations and hospital facilities for health or welfare security
reason. Even then most of the village disputes are solved by the appointed elders of the village as
judges. All the villagers are strictly follow the traditional village law and abid by the Justice given by
the elders of the village. These elders are called “Grama Peddalu” or “Grama Kapulu”.
The Akkayapalem villagers prefer and mostly believe in their own traditional medicine rather
than regular medicine by the doctors. But whenever their people suffer with any major health
problem or disease they prefer to come to Chirala town for medical treatment. These fishermen
groups only prefer their own law & jurisdiction and they never entertain foreigners or outers’
involvement in their own village problems. The mind set of the villagers is very strong, same and
unique for all. They are also physically & psychologically identical. Hence they would like to
maintain distance from all other groups of people for their own safety and security reason. The
village literacy rate is 69% and the lifespan of the villagers is 65 years. But all most all the elders of
the village are illiterates and ugly in look.
A few villagers are educated up to UG and PG level. These villagers prefer their children
education up to 5th class standard only. Later on they train and send their children to fishing
occupation and their own traditional cultural practices. All they failed to maintain personal
cleanliness or sanitary conditions. All age group people are present. All most all the village people
are Hindus by religion and a few are converted to Islam, Christianity and Buddhism. They have caste
discrimination than religious discrimination in their daily life. But they prefer their own style of
worshiping of local traditional gods and goddesses. Their festivals are unique. In the Government of
Andhra Pradesh state they are considered as ST, SC & BC’s and availing all the Govt. schemes.

Field Work:
Field work is one of the most important and effective learning tools in any field of education
especially in environmental studies. It takes the student out of the classroom and prompts him/her to
observe, feel, study, discover, interpret, invent and rediscover themselves. Field studies are as
essential as classroom teaching, complementing the lab to land learning methodology
The student may visit any local area for a week days and study the social aspects and observe
the difference between classroom knowledge and the practical challenges in the real world and come
with conclusions for a cost-effective practical solutions with figures and facts, which provides useful

philosophical, aesthetic and optional values.
