The Nigerian High Commission, London, has also supported all our events since 2012 and we are expecting this partnership to continue with BONIE2018. We are also the organisers of the Asset and Waste Management Summit, an annual event that takes place in Abuja, which will be in its 3rd edition next year.

Highlight of the dayTwo attendees who brought their business plans to the symposium were immediately granted free mentorship, an all-expense paid trip to the UK to attend BONIE 2018 and investment into their businesses.

As a prelude to the Best of Nigeria Investment Exhibition (BONIE2018) to be held in London this October, NIG, in conjunction with CODUB Group of Companies and The British International Institute for Leadership and Management (BIILM), officially unveiled some of its key investors, strategic partners, sponsors and exhibitors at an International Symposium tagged: INVESTMENT DESTINATION NIGERIA. The event was held on 26th July, 2018 at the Banquet Hall of the NAF Conference Centre & Suites in Abuja, the Federal Capital of Nigeria.

Chairman of NIG, Chidi Umeano, said his primary task is to encourage investors that come through the NIG platform that they will be able to earn our trust and can count on NIG to handhold them while navigating through the investment journey in Nigeria. Umeano also urged Nigerian business entrepreneurs to take advantage of its upcoming London Expo to source for global partners.

Presenting a paper on “Leadership Ascension - How Nigerian Business Leaders can transform their businesses, communities and country”, Mr. Jermaine Edwards, Chairman, British

International Institute for Leadership and Management (BIILM) spoke on the importance of leadership in relation to inviting investment into the economy. He stated that according to research by the World Economic Forum and the PWC “Trust in terms of leadership had caused $1.9 billion loss in investment”.

Noting that the lack of functional and transparent leadership is partially responsible for averting investment from Nigeria, making reference to his own hesitation in coming to Nigeria. Edwards also shared information about his interaction with the Obama Foundation and plans to invest in future leaders of tomorrow, by running a leadership and mentorship programme in Nigeria aimed at youths ranging from 16 – 25 years of age.

He also mentioned that the objective of BONIE2018, which will be taking place at ExCel Centre, London between 3rd and 4th October 2018, is to promote the new Ease of Business policies that President Muhammadu Buhari proposed and the fact that by the end of 2017, Nigeria scaled up 24 spots in the Ease of Doing Business Index, moving from 169th (out of 190) to 145th on the rankings. The Expo is targeting Nigeria’s top 15 trade partners of the world: USA, UK, China, Netherlands, India, Spain, France, Brazil, Belgium, Turkey, South Africa, Italy, Germany, Indonesia and Japan.

A presentation by Engr. Chidi Izuwah Snr, AG Director General/CEO, Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission (ICRC) on seeking Public Private Partnerships (PPP) in a quest for Enhanced Capital and Expertise, highlighted the importance infrastructure plays in the development of the economy and how efficient infrastructure can only be achieved by Public Private Partnerships between the Government and the private sector. He stated that one of the major hindrances to human capital development in Nigeria, is the lack of proper infrastructure.

Mrs Ekaette Umoh, Founding MD/CEO, Springforth Integrated Services Limited, also made a presentation on: “Accessing Business Loans and remaining Financially Sustainable”. Drawing from her years of experience as the CEO of a Microfinance Bank, she noted that some of the essential skills and requirements entrepreneurs need to attract proper investment into their businesses was to implement systems that show transparency, clarity and purpose. Umoh also reiterated that loans should be a last resort when it comes to acquiring capital for businesses.

One of the most experienced and distinguished geologist in the country, Prof Nuhu Obaje, Group Management Consultant & Mining Expert from RAPHBAMY Nigeria Limited spoke on “Developing a Central Databank for Investors in the Mining Sector”. He gave insights on the huge opportunities presented by the untapped mining sector and called for investors who are ready to explore the “new oil” sector.

Questions were answered by the DG/CEO of the National Office for Technological Acquisition and Promotion (NOTAP), Dr. Dan Azumi Ibrahim and he clamoured for proper development and presentation of projects to the international investment market.He stated that it was important to attract investors who would invest in Nigeria in order to further cut down on capital flight from the country. He said the issue of capital flight and repatriation of funds by some companies operating in the country were of serious concern to the agency, adding that more than 90 per cent of the technology that powered the Nigerian economy was imported. He, however, noted that through the application of thorough analytical process in the registration of companies importing technology into Nigeria, NOTAP had been able to save over N200bn for the country in the past few years.

Mr. Femi Omotuyi, the Executive Director (Operations) of Nigeria Investment Gateway Limited spoke very passionately about the various sponsor and exhibition deals that were been brokered during the event and gave various reasons why any serious business or entrepreneur looking to expand their business must be at the Best of Nigeria Investment Exhibition (BONIE2018) to be held in London from 3rd to 4th October, 2018. He also mentioned the award night taking place on 5th October that aims to recognise key people and businesses for their incredible efforts and important initiatives effecting sustainable economic and social Nigeria.

Chief (Dr.) Ayakeme Ebiwarefa Whisky, Chairman/CEO of Elabi Petroleum Limited, who flew in from Yenagoa spoke on Collaborating to Look Beyond Oil in Bayelsa State. He highlighted a lot investable projects across the state including green energy particularly power generation through solar, agriculture, tourism and education. He stated that the government had a lot of incentives to support investors especially around provision of lands, tax incentives and policies enabling ease of doing business in Bayelsa. He however decried the past experiences of investors requesting for stern and unfavourable conditions before they can invest in the state.
