It is our pleasure to introduce Bob Evatt to our team at Garden Gate and his hand on the door knob is typical of his willingness to get to work. Bob comes to us with a lifetime of Nursery experience and it is a privilege to have him with us. Bob was our original consultant for pruning and general growing practices in 2006 when we first planted a section of ornamental trees. He has been involved in some ways ever since, as someone we could call on for advice and is operating his own nursery near Sandy, Oregon called Mountain Mist Ornamentals. He will continue to operate his own nursery and assist us also.
When you arrive at Bob, and his wife Karen’s home and nursery you will be greeted by two large friendly Malamute dogs, and the very neat layout of his greenhouses and Iris beds, and other ornamentals. His product will be showing as availability also from time to time. He brings an invaluable amount of experience, by growing up in Michigan and planting his first nursery stock in 1975. He worked for 10 years in a retail, landscape and re-wholesale nursery. He worked in all areas of design, sales and production. After leaving that job he had his own perennial farm and landscape business, of which one of the most rewarding jobs was to improve the grounds of a large cemetery where he constructed both formal and informal gardens with intensive annual and
perennial plantings. Bob moved to Oregon in 1991 to work as the production foreman for J. Frank Schmidt, container division. He was later
promoted to Farm manager where he was in charge of all daily activities and the production of container trees and shrubs and was there 10 years.
After leaving Schmidt he worked for 2 other nurseries and started his own business and consulting company, where he helped companies with management, production and the construction of container yards.
In Michigan Bob was one of the founding members of the local nursery association and served as their representative to the state board and later president. In Oregon he has been the president of Mount Hood Chapter and chaired the natural resource committee for the state board.
Bob also chairs the Sandy Water Shed Committee that wrote the rules for the Sandy Basin to comply with the clean water act. In his spare time Bob enjoys a woodworking project in his wood shop. Needless to say we at Garden Gate are very happy to have Bob on our team.
Bob’s primary job will to be running our conifer growing division in Oregon and to find and help us gather up quality plant material that we sometimes need for jobs when we supply the entire package. It is possible that you will talk direct to Bob sometimes if you have needs or questions that we refer to him.
Thanks again Bob for joining us at Garden Gate.
Welcome Bob
Rachel’s Corner: Hello from the Crazy desk of the Office Manager. With the Spring winds blowing and dust flying, the
phone starts going crazy and emails keep popping up on the computer as if they want to join the ac-tion. We are very happy to start taking your Spring orders and look forward to working through another
BUSY season with you all. Please keep in mind; if you want to get a load shipped out, it is best if we know at least a week in advance so we can get you on the schedule. We do understand that there are always those ‘Last minute’ situations and we will do our best to not leave you hanging. Therefore in an effort to keep everything straight in my brain, we would suggest that emails are a GREAT way to discuss quotes for larger orders. I mean lets face it, with a 1.5yr old Lil’ Boy running around, my brain switches gears frequently, and I soon become a VERY BUSY person. I do love talking on the phone with you, but just be ready to hear that Lil’ Boy yell “TRACTOR” as he watches out the window. With the “New” website coming, our plan is to keep it more up to date for “YOUR” convenience. (Until then Please feel free to give me a shout!) I am ex-cited to see how the year will progress and we hope we can fulfill each and every need, as best as possible. May your year be filled with Joy and Happiness!
Happy Spring - Rachel Wray
