V5P 3N2 What can the Reference and Regulate program do for a child with ASD? Most children with Autistic Spectrum Disorder can learn how to: § Be calm § Tell people what they think § Develop true friends and a loving relationship with family members Implementation of R&R has successfully developed the skills of joint attention, social referencing and regulation in young children with ASD. Research indicates that these skills are the foundation for later language and social skills in children with ASD. This theory has been verified by extremely positive outcomes for our clients through our current research projects. What will the R&R Introduction and Intervention Summary Workshop teach? § Research and clinical experience with most of the popular current treatment models to better understand best practice and define core deficits in ASD. § The development of referencing and social cognition in typical children and the remediation of these skills in children with ASD including the development of eye contact, gaze following, joint attention, reciprocal referencing in conversations and peer interactions § Social referencing as a pivotal and prerequisite skill for later developing language and peer interactions § The development of regulation from initial adaptations to the later development of self regulation § Videos of activities and hands on practice with activities for each stage of intervention.
