Working StrategiesMost of us are a volunteer in sports management, and were

drawn in as either a parent, former athlete, official or perhapseven a sponsor. Although sports are not the same in everycountry, were absolutely convinced that we have quite somecommon issues that we deal with on a continuous basis.

We need a team/ board or committee of 5 to 6 people butin most organizations all the work done by 1 or 2 people. Inmanagement there is word lead by example. So if wetranslate this to our sports arena, this means that the top(we as managers) should practice good teamwork, so that

our followers (teams, athletes, coaches) follow ourexample.

  • 7/29/2019 Introduction YOTI Foundation

    13/32

    13

The lack of funds is the main reason why our sports organization

cannot develop further. Sports activities cost money that is a fact. But in lots of cases there are other, more structural reasons for asports organization to be stuck with their development. The beforementioned lack of teamwork could be one of them.

Another one can be the absence of a long-term plan, or even nothaving the right persons for the right position. Think of any team

sport. We may have the best athletes, but iftheyre not in the rightposition, the performance will be bad.

Normally parents take management or leadership positions insports organization, to be involved in the childs recreational life, orjust to help out. There is a danger however, that outsiders only seethis situation in such a way that the parents main aim is to benefittheir child. Although this may be sometimes the case, just imaginethat all parents will no longer be involved in sports management, where would our sports be?

We should prevent possible situations of Conflict ofInterest. The easiest way to start with this, is to

agree within your team, that whenever a decisionshould be taken, that effects anyone close, the boardmember in question will not be part of the processthat leads to the decision.

We also need to train our managers, leaders withprofessional skills like Time Management Skills,Empathy with athletes, Ability to delegate wherenecessary, Role model for athletes, Crisis

management skills, Appreciation of the wideraspects of the sport, Report writing skills, commitment to reading, sensitivity and openness tochange, openness to the ideas of others.

    Sports Marketing

Sport marketingis a subdivision ofmarketingwhichfocuses both on the promotion of sports events andteams as well as the promotion of other productsand services through sporting events and sportsteams.

Target MarketWe need to target on youth of the nation forthat we will pick the places where we can findyoungsters all around for marketing such asschools, colleges, universities, shopping malls, movie theatres etc.

Presentations will be presented in schools andcolleges for OSA and our events.

Well call celebrities for our events and willtry to gather mass with their name.

Our main focus will be on attracting newplayers and crowd for events.

    Financial Planning

We will change a very nominal fee from the playerswhich will be beneficial in long term. We may fix upsome membership options also for outsiders. Wehave entire budget to get the OSA started and to

maintain it. We have also planned for a big-banginauguration for the academy to give it a highlightfrom the beginning.

OSA will be a profitable venture for sure, for whichwe need to fix up the annually budget and need to fixup the fee and other charges.
