Introduction to the Green Square Mile

IntroductionIbex Earth is a not for profit organisation, established in 2008 to harness the support of businesses & individuals to help preserve global biodiversity and protect threatened habitats & endangered species.

We work with & support over 35 environmental & conservation charities.

Throughout 2013 Ibex Earth will be launching a series of conservation projects via an initiative called ‘Our World: Our Choice’, which includes the Green Square Mile.

The GSM will become a registered charity later in 2013.

Raise £1million per annum to donate to three fantastic conservation charities.

Global Biodiversity

Since 1992 the world population has grown by 26% - hitting 7billion in 2011 & expected to reach 9billion by 2050.

Increase in human activities, demand for food, water, energy & materials.

Ever growing pressure on global biodiversity & the ecosystems, habitats it supports.

Global biodiversity declined by 30% between 1970 & 1998 – 60% in the tropics (Living Planet Report 2012).

Forest cover has declined by 3million sq. kms in just 20 years – that’s the size of India (UNEP 2011).

Rate of extinction between 1,000-10,000 times the natural extinction rate.
