The Innovation “Storm” Before the Calm...

Background of Po tential Difference Inc:

Potential Difference Inc. (PDi) is a Canadian Clean-Tech Research & Development company located in Mississippi Mills Ontario. PDi was incorporated in 2005 by Kevin Thistle, JC Cunningham, Kim Cunningham and Thane Heins.

PDi's Area of Expertise is:

PDi Regenerative Acceleration Generator Innovation (ReGen-X):(US Patent Pending Application Number US14059775)

Overview: The ReGen-X Generator is a new Salient Pole electric generator coil design that employs a 45 – 90 degree load current delay (http://slidesha.re/1gAMqIa). The Salient Pole generator coil and load current delay allows the ReGen-X Generator to reverse the EV generator's induced Counter-Electromotive-Torque which is responsible for the parasitic regenerative braking or deceleration of the EV while the generator is charging the EV's batteries. The ReGen-X Generator allows EVs to partially recharge themselves as they drive without any parasitic regenerative braking effects.

Background: EV regenerative braking is a colloquial term for Generator Armature Reaction which is a resistive Counter-Electromotive-Torque produced inside the generator when the generator is delivering power to a load thus leading to deceleration (braking) of the EV.

Generator Armature Reaction in conventional electric generators necessitates an increase in the mechanical drive shaft input power driving the generator or the generator will slow down under load and eventually stall.

The required drive shaft mechanical power increase is always greater than the energy delivered by the generator because the generator's efficiency (the mechanical to electrical conversion efficiency is always a percentage number less than 100%).

The more power delivered by a conventional electric generator the greater the magnitude of the armature reaction (counter-torque) produced inside the generator and the more the input torque needs to be increased to keep the generator from slowing down.

ReGen-X Principle of Operation: The ReGen-X Generator does not require an increase in mechanical drive shaft input power when placed on-load because the the generator's Armature Reaction is delayed and reversed. The ReGen-X generator does not produce a counter-torque on-load but rather a complementary-torque instead. This requires a decrease in drive shaft input mechanical power if a set system speed is desired.

NRC test of a ReGen-X Generator prototype at Ottawa University in 2009, showed a 40% input power decrease while the ReGen-X Generator delivered over 200% more output to the same load at the same system speed over the conventional generator. Because the Salient Pole ReGen-X Generator reversesregenerative braking effects, the ReGen-X generator nowallows pure EVs to partially recharge themselves as theydrive without any parasitic deceleration effects – greatly

increasing the EV's range between plug-in charging.

The third party testing by NRC scientist Doug Hart wick showed that the conventional generator required a 12% input power increase when placed on-load whereas the ReGen-X Generator delivered over 2X more power to the load with less input power than was required by the system while idling on no-load.
