SYMBOL AND REFERENTS

• Symbol: as something use for or regarded as representing something else ( events, actions, objects, person, or places).

DENOTATION & CONNOTATION

• Denotation refers dictionary meaning; the objective or descriptive meaning of a word.

• Connotation refers subjective meaning; one’s personal meaning for a word. Connotation contains all these three: negative-

positive connotation, culture and connotation, the semantic differential.
