Only Schott glass is used as raw material, which results in an outstanding product. Quality control and inspection Opto-electronic (photo camera) devices on the glass machines measure within fractions of a second, whether the vial meets our specifications. A second photo camera inspection checks for cosmetic errors (cracks, chips) in the glass. Length gauging equip- ment measures dimensional specifications in addition to the camera inspection. When a vial is not according to specification, it automatically goes to waste. The vials are packed in a cleanroom, therefore avoiding any chance of contamination. A manual random inspection and a final inspection to ISO and other quality standards assure you of a great, problem free and reliable product. We only supply caps from the main manufacturers, who supply 90% of the industry and we consider this the standard. Our cap manufacturers also use photo camera inspection. IntroductionAt Chrom4 we are known for our world class products.

Quality control and inspection Opto-electronic (photocamera)devices on the glass machines measure within fractions of a second, whether the vial meets our specifications. A second photo camera inspection checks for cosmetic errors (cracks,chips)intheglass.

Length gauging equip-ment measures dimensional specifications inaddition to the camera inspection.

Our recommended vials, caps and inserts are specifically designed and made for Agilent™ compatible autosamplers.In general, Agilent™ autosamplers use a 9mm thread screw vial (sometimescalledROBOorDPvial).

These vials require a 9-425 screw cap, available in various colours for colour-coding of yoursamples(seepages5-6).For Biopharma applications, we recommend a PTFE/Silicone liner.Most of Agilent™ GC and some LC applications use 11mm crimp vials with an 11mm aluminum crimp cap available in 5 colours (see page4).Some chemists prefer a snap vial, which requires a 11mm snap cap. For snap vials and caps see page 7-8.For 8mm crimp vials and Headspace vials, please refer to page 9 and page 25 respectively.

LC Certified Combi-KitsDue to customer requests, Chrom4 is now providing QC Certified vial and cap Combi-Kits.

These certified Combi-Kits are identical to the Combi-Kits found on page 23 of the Sample Handling section of this cat-alogue, but will include certificiation documentation.

Every batch of LC certified Combi-Kits is tested on 16 critical parameters. The vial and cap combinations are checked for blanks and contamination by HPLC/UV and LC-MS testing.

Certified Combi-Kits include the batch-specific test results and the HPLC/LC-MS chromatograms.

The LC certified Combi-Kit components are shipped shrinkwrapped to ensure purity, transport and end user safety.

To get reproducible results it is very important that the headspace vials and caps form a tight seal.In headspace analysis, the sample is sealed into the vial and heated until the concentration in the gas phase is in equilibrium with the concentration in the liquid phase. A sample from the headspace is then analyzed.Our headspace vials are according to manufacturersʼ guidelines.

InnoSep™CHROM4 Offers Affordable, Quality Syringe Filters

Housing Polypropylene housings are highly solvent resistant and exhibit low extractables. They are ideal for filtering samples or solvents used in chromatography.

Size4mm syringe filters are useful for filtration up to 1mL of low particulate level chromatography of biological samples.17mm syringe filters have a filtration area of 1.3cm2 and a hold-up volume of less than 30uL with an air purge.Ideal for samples up to 12mL.30mm syringe filters have a filtration area of 4.9cm2 and offer the fastest sample filtration.

MembraneThe cellulose acetate and polysulfone membranes are all low protein binding, which makes them well suited for filtration of biological samples.PTFE membrane in a PP housing can be used to filter sol-vents and strong acids.Although PTFE is inherently hydrophobic, it can be made hydrophilic by pre-wetting the membrane with methanol and then rinsing with water.Nylon or polypropylene are ideal for filtration of chromatogra-phy samples.Polypropylene membranes exhibit near zero extractables, arevery resistant to solvents and most chemicals and would be the first choice for filtration of chromatography samples.

IRIS SPE Sample Extraction Products

• InnoSep Vacuum manifolds for SPE sample preparation, filtration,

and elution are available in 12, 16, and 24 port configurations.

• These manifolds permit consistent extraction and filtration

results. Multiple sample processing with these manifolds

simplifies procedures and saves time. The manifolds consist of a

clear glass chamber and lid to which a vacuum is applied to draw

a sample through an SPE column, cartridge, or disk.

• Adjustable racks placed in the glass vacuum chamber will

accommodate

a variety of sample collection vessels, including test tubes,

autosampler vials, volumetric flasks, and Erlenmeyer flasks.

Eluents are deposited directly into the collection vessel of choice

Note: The peak area values for Diquat were found to change over time. There was a relatively quick change to lower area values that then

somewhat leveled off. The area values used for quantitation were for injections of the standards and the SPE solutions in this semi-stable time

frame. This observed change in peak area over time is consistent with references that state the need to deactivate glassware prior to Diquat

solution contact. In this analysis the SPE Diquat solution comes in contact with three different glass vessels. Diquat is not retained by the

chromatographic column, eluting in the void volume. However, the strong absorbance at 310nm allows for quantitation without interference.

Void-sealing cartridge systemThe system is characterized by a void-sealing mechanism. If a void eventually occurs at the top of the column bed, a simple tightening of the locking head will move the cone-sealing cylinder and frit downwards until it creates the zero-void configuration of the original cartridge. Large knurled end fittings allow ready hand-tightening of the system.

The ASI HPLC pump is designed with the chromatographer in mind. It can be used as a reliable low cost isocratic pump or integrated into a gradient HPLC System. In either case, the pump incorporates several key features which make it truly one of a kind in the world of HPLC Pumps.

Isocratic Model 501

The Model 501 is a high performance, compact solvent delivery module that has been designed to compete with the most expensive pump systems on the market in reliability and performance without the high cost. A dual piston design with solvent compressibility feedback assures virtually pulse-free and accurate solvent delivery. The Model 501 has all of the features of the Model 500, but without gradient programming capability. It may be used as an economical stand alone pump for isocratic operation, or in conjunction with a Model 500 for gradient opera tion.

Model 500

The Model 500 has been designed to convert the Model 501from an isocratic pump to a gradient HPLC system. Full operation and gradient control programming is achieved through the keypad on the front panel of the Model 500. The Model 500 includes a high pressure integral static mixer, connecting tubing, and all the accessories necessary to quickly convert the Model 501 to gradient operation.

Model 500G

The Model 500G is a complete high pressure gradient HPLC system. The system includes one Model 501, one Model 500, and all necessary electrical and plumbing connections.

What is calibration?Calibration is the process of establishing how the response ofa measuring device varies with respect to the instrument para-meter being measured. The usual way to perform calibrationis to measure the parameter (e.g. using a reference material)and monitor the instrument response

Why is calibration important?Place any equipment in the environment of choice, and imme-diately the chosen environment will begin to act on that equip-ment causing change and ultimately degradation in perfor-mance. This so called drift causes your results to becomeunreliable and no longer “fit for their intended purpose”. Whiledrift cannot be eliminated it can be detected and containedthrough the process of calibration. Baskets, Shafts and PaddlesCHROM4 offers both clip-on style and O-ring style baskets & basket shafts for most dissolution baths. Both meet the asso-ciated original equipment manufacturers dimensional specifi-cations. Both clip style and O-ring style baskets comply with USP (711) specifications. All CHROM4 baskets aremade from electropolished, sintered 316 stainless steel. The sintering process essentially creates a welded joint at each overlapping wire junction. Sintered baskets are stronger and last longer. They retain original dimensions and geometry and resist wobble. Clip-on style shafts utilize a proprietary, spring tempered clip, which retains the original gripping tension far longer than conventional shafts.

CHROM4 offers electropolished 316 stainless steel paddles.

Clip style and O-ring style shafts & paddles are precisely manufactured to limit rotational wobble to levels far below USP(711)specifications.

Guard Columns - Retention Gaps

Guard columns consist of 5 meters of deactivated fused silica supplied with high temperature string. All guard columns are extremely inert and each is pretested.

Guard columns are useful in protecting your analytical column from harmful non-volatile contaminates that are commonly found in many environmental and industrial samples.

Attaching the guard column to the front of the analytical column using fused silica connectors, or zero dead volume union, will extend your column’s lifetime. The non-volatile contaminants are deposited onto the guard column.

ChromGC Press-Fit connectors allow you to simply connect, with a tight seal, different columns or Retention Gaps together in many ways. Our Press-Fit connectors are custom-made to fit any tubing size and to ensure the minimal dead volume.

Press-Fit Union linear connectors, ideal to connect two columns or a Retention Gap to the analytical column.

Press-Fit “Y” three way connectors, ideal to connect two analytical columns to a single injector port or split the exit of one column to a dual detector GC system. Many other configurations are possible using ChromGC “Y” Press-Fit.

XTRM (Extreme) Columns

What is an XTRM (Extreme) column?XTRM columns are wall coated open tubular (WCOT) columns consisting of stainless steel tubing that has a special internal surface treatment. This special surface treatment makes the surface similar to deactivated fused silica. The unique surface treatment process permits us to offer XTRM columns in a wide range of internal diameters and phases. Because the special surface treatment permeates the stainless steel surface, rather than the conventional coating, the layer is particularly easy to bend, so the tubing can be coiled to very small diameters.

Compare XTRM columns and fused silica columns:• Metal columns can be coiled under 4.5 inches without breaking, ideal for small instruments.• Metal tubing allows XTRM columns to be used to higher temperatures (430°C) than fused silica columns

(standard rating is 380°C). • Coating efficiency (plates/meter) of XTRM columns is comparable to that of fused silica.• Dormancy of XTRM columns and fused silica columns is comparable, due to the unique properties

of the special surface treatment in XTRM columns.• XTRM columns will not break under stress.
