Senders |Receiver• When we first starting thinking

about communication we thought computers were the model of human communication so we began thinking about who was sending the message and who was receiving it. We did not think about the fact that while we are sending a message we are also receiving a message. Non-verbal communication factors in to this.

Now we think of sending and receiving together.

Sender ReceiverThe Person who sends a message to someone.While the person is sending that message they are receiving other messages.

Receiver-Sender

• The person who receives the message.At the same time the person is sending messages back. (feedback)

Context• The setting | place in which Communication occurs

Channel

• The space in which a message is transmitted. (the tool that is used)

Feedback

A visible response to the message that is being sent. Feedback is a form of a message that may be verbal or nonverbal.

Noise

• Anything that interferes with communication but that can be changed.

Internal—thoughts, feelings, energy, mood

External—loud sounds, physical noise

Barrier

• An obstacle that blocks communication. It is not easily changed.

External: walls, distance

Internal: Stereotype, prejudice, world view, cultural norms
