one very important line in the act

the federal government has the responsibility

or rather

Page 15: Intro to indian act

The Indian Acts

Of 1876 and 1951

Page 16: Intro to indian act

One of the main concepts of the act

wasNative land was actually Crown

land

Page 17: Intro to indian act

The crown was looking after it for the

natives

And by crown, they meant the government

Page 18: Intro to indian act

Which restricted the sovereignty of natives

And by government, they meant white people

Page 19: Intro to indian act

And by restricted we mean it was illegal for

natives to:• buy alcohol

• vote

• sell their land

• leave the reserve without permission

• or hire lawyers to fight the laws

Page 20: Intro to indian act
