The Forest By Jason Brown & Jacob Dale

Synopsis

The introduction to our film is used to raise questions about the main character (the girl in the red coat) and how and why the corpse is in the shed and why is it left in the circumstances it is.

Many items and scenes in the introduction will become important to heighten the story and surrealism of the film. These items and scenes such as pecking birds and the destroying of a spiders web will be brought up regularly to make the view remember what happened around these events. The intro is meant to endues an emotional response from the viewer. There is also an underlining point to the introduction that features hints that will be part of the main plot to the film.

Characters & Creative ideas The girl – This girl is the main character in the intro. She is seen walking through the forest collecting mushrooms for purposes unknown. She is looking round the environment expressionlessly but is clearly interested in her surroundings. Her origins are unknown and she carries an air of mystery as she walks through the forests scaling fallen logs and jumping streams. At one point she destroys a spiders web, essentially destroying its habitat and home, this shows a lot about the girl’s personality. She also carries a strange scrap book filled with disturbing drawings, she uses this to identify the mushrooms.

Corpse – An unidentified corpse is found surrounded by a pentagram. When the girl sees this she is more comfortable than scared.

Locations

The majority of the introduction is set in the forest (the safe haven for the girl), although the body is found in a ominous shed in the middle of some featureless fields. The bare fields are meant to make the view feel naked with nowhere to hide, a juxtaposition to the dense forest.
