Challenge:My role as project manager is to ensure that projects are completed on time and under budget. Last year, I was asked by leadership to combine three office spaces into one. With a tight deadline of 90 days and dealing with multiple contractors from different companies, I knew it was going to be a struggle to complete the job in time. I set the goal of having everything completed within 80 days to give us 10 days at the end to make final corrections.
Action: By dividing all the different contractors into three main teams and having three project managers controlling the three teams, I was able to create a more efficient and effective work timetable and ensure that downtime was kept to a minimum.
Result: As a result of this more efficient working time we completed the job on time and reduced costs by 15%. This new way of dividing contractors into smaller teams has now been implemented into standard work procedure and seen a reduction in overall costs.

VIDEO INTERVIEWSMany companies are now conducting video interviews, primarily via Skype or Lync. You might speak with one person or a group of people at once.
PANEL INTERVIEWSA panel interview is an interview with a group of people with disparate roles within the company. There can be any number of people in the room, some may only be there to observe and not ask questions.
Transition coaching fundamentals:Interview skills and practice
• Honesty is often the best policy. Be short and sweet. Focus on the future, not the past.
• “I had a great experience at ABC – learned a lot and developed a network that will last a lifetime. Unfortunately, the project that I was assigned to ended and there was limited work available in my area of expertise. As a result, I was part of a team-wide reduction. I am excited for a new challenge.”
• “My last salary at ABC was x. I’m open to discussion depending on the salary range for this role. Can you share that?”
• Don’t withhold or inflate your salary. It will likely be checked during a background investigation!
