IT Peripherals Industry
LATEST TRENDS
The global computers and peripherals industry generated total revenues of
$540.1 billion in 2009, representing a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of
5% for the period spanning 2004-09. Personal computers (PC) segment
proved the most lucrative for the global computers and peripherals industry in
2009, generating total revenues of $236.9 billion, equivalent to 43.9% of the
industry’s overall value. The performance of the industry is forecast to
accelerate only slightly, with an anticipated CAGR of 5.9% for the five-
year period 2008-2013.
With the increase in Personal Computer (PC) penetration rate, the demand for
peripheral devices has been growing rapidly. The increasing demand for
printing and scanning in the various industries (such as manufacturing, banking
and finance, and services) is driving the growth of the Peripherals market. There
has also been an increase in the Home segment, due to increase in the high level
of disposable incomes. The impact of the global economic recession is now well
behind us and the IT hardware industry in India is once again on a revival path.
The year 2009-10 has indeed witnessed an excellent comeback by the Indian IT
hardware market

Marketing & SalesThe marketing department plays a vital role to the sales department. The main
thrust is to make the product look and feel attractive enough to purchase. There
are many things that the marketing department does. It creates and administers
the advertising of a product...usually from conception to completion. In other
words it develops the advertising campaign and works with the public relations
department to place ads in various trade magazines and newspapers so that
people and companies will see what you have. It develops the spec sheets that
are used to promote interest at trade shows. It has responsibility for trade shows.
Displaying the product, having literature ready, having the proper people
available to talk about the product. It develops campaigns to promote the
product to distributors and customers. It develops the branding...for instance the
41
logo, the slogan, that will be used in advertising. It creates the kits or packaging
that the product will be housed in. It is responsible for all press releases. To
summarize, it creates the campaigns that make the product attractive to
purchase.
Supply Chain Management SystemSupply Chain Management is a cross functional approach to managing the
movement of raw materials into an organization and movement of the finished
goods out of the organization toward the end consumer.
Supply Chain Management efforts start with the development and execution of
a long-term supply chain strategy.
Among other things, this strategy should:
Identify what supply chains the firm wants to compete in
Help managers understand how the firm will provide value to the supply
chain
Guide the selection of supply chain partners, including suppliers,
subcontractors, transportation providers, and distributors
42
CONCLUSION
43
My Findings And Suggestions
(Product side)The commercial Dot Matrix Printers and POS terminal which was in the market
has got all the relevant factors to capture consumer market. The strategy found
out by TVS-E as well as its quality is satisfactory which has led to the success of
the product. One suggestion is that more care and concern should be given to
after sales service to retain the trust of existing customers. Also TVS-E should
bring advertisement in print media and audio-video to attract more consumers
towards brand and concentrate on semi urban areas and remote areas too. TVS-E
has more visual identity, but it should work to create strong brand identity. TVS-
E should keep on bringing out new time attractive offers and schemes to increase
brand value and attract customers. Exhibitions do not help to generate so much
sells but they should be conducted regularly. This helps in generating awareness
regarding the product in customers which ultimately helps in sales. Company
should try to improve service. No doubt the company products have technically
edge over competitors but in long run they have to build stronger strategies in
selling and distribution.
(HR Side)I experienced Good Human Relation at TVS-E. More and more employee
oriented programs and employee participating events should be carried out so
that they can be emotionally attached to the organization.
44
