Learner Description

This presentation is aimed at secondary school age students ages 14-17.

This presentation would be used in conjunction with an online science lesson that involve using the Internet to complete a webquest.

This lesson will discuss issues of Internet Safety

Yes, I am sure you all know the basic rules:

Don’t give out any real info such as your name, birthday, or address.

Don’t meet strangers you meet online in the real world.

Don’t post inappropriate pictures of yourself or others.

But is it really just that simple or easy? Let’s find out!

How do you decide what information and images to post online?

Have you or someone you know ever posted something you regret?

What information and images are NOT okay to post?

Why do people post inappropriate messages and pictures?

How can things you post online effect your future?

Things to think aboutRemember to always think about your online reputation. What does it say about you?

Don’t post anything you might regret later in life. Think about who will see this? What will they think? Remember future employers, teachers, friends etc.

Use privacy settings to limit access to your page.

Remember that online choices have offline consequences.

Things to think about

Never respond to harassing or rude comments but be sure to save or print the evidence

Report it! If you are being harassed talk to your parents or guardians, ISP, school, or local law enforcement.

Always respect others online. Review your netiquette rules if necessary.

Passwords: Change them often and even protect your cell phone.

Use privacy settings to block unwanted messages.
