THE KEEPERS OF KNOWLEDGE

The logo for the Centre for Indigenous Education & Community Connections was designed by the late Ditidaht artist, Tsa Qwa Supp (Art Thompson). The two wolves represent members of a governing traditional system called Tl’uu Kwalaa. This system is practiced within the Nuu-chah-nulth Nation. Certain members of this system are keepers of knowledge. This logo represents a male and a female keeper of knowledge.

THE GATHERING PLACE

Resembling a huge cedar hat and perched on top of the slope overlooking Lansdowne Road, the Gathering Place – Na’tsa’maht – was built as a culturally welcoming space.

At Camosun College, we strongly believe in “learning by doing”. Through small class sizes, interactive labs, and project-based learning, we simulate the real-world work experience in the classroom and facilitate the development of hands-on skills that employers value. We develop and refine our curriculum through our connections with industry, government, community and the non-profit sector: this helps to ensure that our learning outcomes match the needs of the job market, and that our students are prepared to succeed in the workplace.

MIZUKI ODE Japan

SCH O O L O F A R TS & SC I EN CE

I’m from Japan and am taking the University Transfer program. I plan to complete my degree at the University of Victoria. I chose Camosun College because it has an incredibly strong connection with UVIC and offers seamless transfer opportunities. University Transfer allows me to study in smaller classes, prepare for university, have easier access to instructors in a friendly atmosphere, and study at a more affordable cost.

Camosun College has given me the opportunity to meet many people from different backgrounds: international students from Asia, Latin America, Europe, and the Middle East, and domestic students who are in their 20s, 30s and 40s. Camosun College is full of people who have a passion to learn, no matter how old they are, no matter where they are from, no matter who they are.

My experience at Camosun has changed my idea of school and learning.

LUIS AGUILERA Mexico

SCH O O L O F B US I N E S S

I’m from Mexico and am studying the Bachelor in Business Administration program at Camosun. Back in 2013, when I was just 15 years old, I made the decision to study abroad and have never regretted it since. The friends I made and the adventures we had gave me joy, made me laugh and created memories that I will keep forever. Most importantly, I fell in love with Victoria. Life here is different from what I was used to, but that helped me grow, build character, and made me the person I am today. As the school year went by, it was time to say goodbye to the people, memories, places and my life here.

Friends I met in high school started attending Camosun College and told me how practical the learning experience was there. I made the decision to apply. It wasn’t a hard transition from my high school in Mexico to Camosun College, perhaps it felt like the first time I arrived in Victoria. I am currently studying business at Camosun College because I have always been interested in entrepreneurial leadership and wanted to make a living out of it. Life at Camosun is also more than studying, but having fun and meeting new people. Since I arrived, I have been part of “Peer Connections”: a group of students that gets together once a week to discuss, implement, and create awareness about today’s world problems, as well as volunteer in the community.

Since I’ve been here I have learned a lot of what I will need to achieve my future goals, thanks to the amazing instructors I have had the honour to learn from.

One thing is for sure: over the past two years, I have been part of the Camosun College family, I’ve grown a lot academically, and I’ve made great friends of all ages from around the world, both inside and outside the College.

I`m from South Korea and studying Information and Computer Systems. As an international student at Camosun College, I feel really supported by the international staff and my instructors. In my first semester, I was having a hard time figuring out how to study in English and how to get information about registering for classes and applying for jobs, but I always received the support and assistance I needed. And now, I’m a Student Coordinator helping new students stay safe in Victoria and enjoy their time at Camosun College.

I`m from Japan and came here as an exchange student from Morioka University last year. I am currently taking English Language Development to prepare for my academic program: Exercise and Wellness. I am also a member of the volleyball team at Camosun, and I had the great opportunity to compete with other colleges in B.C. last year. It was not easy to play volleyball as a Japanese speaker, since English is not my first language. However, my wonderful teammates and coaches always support me. I am so excited to start another year of college, and create more memories in Canada!
