This is the first meeting of a new

series of international updates in Surgical Oncology.

Experienced surgeons coming from

high volume reference centres all over the w

orld participate into these m

eetings to exchange their knowledge in research and care of

different cancers of the digestive tract.

The topics of this conference are cardia and stomach cancer. W

hile an overall decrease of gastric cancer incidence has been registered in the last decades, cardia cancer rate is dram

atically increasing, being unrelated to the strenght to eradicate Helicobacter Pylori

infection.In this m

eeting the actual guidelines and indications to endoscopic treatment w

ill be reported by w

ell known gastroenterologists w

ho have developped techniques adopted all over the w

orld.Experts from

Europe, South America and East Asia w

ill discuss about the required extension of Lym

ph Node dissection in case of cardia cancer or early and advanced

gastric cancer.Cardia cancer w

ill also be investigated as concerns the optimal procedure in case of

Siewert types I, II or III and a m

ore detailed discussion will com

pare open with m

inimally

invasive techniques.

The development of both laparoscopic and robotic procedures for total and distal

gastrectomy in case of gastric cancer w

ill be explained by particularly skilled minim

ally invasive gastric surgeons; in this session a particular attention w

ill be payed to the MI

techniques for performing oesophago- and gastro- jejunal anastom

oses. A m

odern description of surgical intraoperative and postoperative complications w

ill be integrated by the investigation on their prevention and treatm

ent. Sessions concerning the enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) procedures and the evidence based data on pre-, intra- and post-operative chem

otherapy protocols will

close the main congress

A special one-day workshop for residents and young surgeons, w

ith international lecturers from

Europe, East Asia and South America has been planned on the day

before the main congress and w

ill investigate diagnosis and treatment subjects of

cardia and stomach cancer through educational form
