AIM OF THE COURSEThe course is designed for consultant surgeons, general surgery senior trainees and theatrenurses with special interest in the laparoscopic approach for common bile duct stones. Itaims to provide participants with the theoretical and practical basis for the initiation of alaparoscopic programme for the treatment of choledocholithiasis. The course will includeaspects such as intraoperative cholangiography, intraoperative ultrasound, laser lithotripsy,use of transcystic and transcoledocal choledochoscopy, laparoscopic dissection and sutureof the bile duct. Handling and optimal use of choledocosope will be emphasised.
The course will be divided in three parts:
1. Live retransmission of a surgical intervention with the possibility of interaction betweenthe surgical team and the participants.2. Theory. The diagnostic and therapeutic protocols based on current evidence will beexplained. The different management options for the patients with choledocholithiasis andconcomitant cholelithiasis will also be summarised.3. Real practice in a pelvitrainer with an animal model, including the use of intraoperativecholedochoscopy and ultrasound, extraction of bile duct stones and laparoscopiccholedocorraphy.
