What is the International Studies Major?

The International Studies major (ISM) is a secondary major which provides students with a global perspective through coursework, learning a foreign language, study abroad, and a senior project.

The ISM can complement any primary major.

2. 12 additional credits of core classes in history, anthropology, political science, geography

3. 9 credits of electives with a significant international focus

4. 2 years foreign language5. 10 week experience

4. Language Requirements

• Proficiency equivalent to two years of college language study.– Example: 4 years high

school

• Proficiency determined by NDSU Department of Modern Languages

5. Experience Abroad

• Ten weeks spent abroad on a pre-approved experience

• With or without credit• Can Include study,

work experience, volunteering, or research

• The NDSU Office of International Programs is the place to go for information on study abroad

6. Integrative Senior Project

Student proposes a project that: (a)integrates their primary major with their experience abroad, (b)integrates an international component to their primary major, or (c)involves a topic that interested them through their coursework.

27 credits (Sophomore) 2.5 GPA 3 credits completed in the

primary major
