MEETING OBJECTIVESTo provide physicians, technologists and researchers with state of the art knowledgeand skills needed to optimally identify and manage osteoporosis patients. To providea public forum in which topics of the Position Development Conference can be widelydiscussed. Specifically, by the end of the program, attendees will be able to:

1. Identify use of DxA for patients with secondary causes of osteoporosis to better understand the subtleties of diagnosis, resulting treatment and management.

2. Understand the impact of poorly obtained bone mass assessments and inaccurate interpretations negatively impact patient care.

3. Decrease fracture risk through use of DxA in the treatment and managementof at-risk patients.

4. Authoritatively address the controversies addressed in the PDC: Indications for VFA, Use of Updated NhANES Reference Databases and body Composition Analysis Using DxA.

5. Apply clinical tools and resources to optimize diagnosis, treatment and management of osteoporosis.

6. Establish stronger working relationships with other partners engaged in providing quality patient care.

7. Evaluate existing and new pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical treatment / management options.

POSITION DEVELOPMENT CONFERENCE (PDC)PDC topics are selected for presentation based on clinical relevance, current lack ofguidelines and likelihood of achieving agreement. The process utilizes theRAND/UCLA Appropriateness Method (RAM), combining available scientific evidencewith the collective judgment of experts to arrive at a position of consensus. Once atopic is identified by members of ISCD’s Scientific Advisory Committee, a task forcediscovers the available research on the topic, forming a framework of points to beaddressed. These findings are then publically presented to an international expertpanel. Following the public presentation, the expert panel crafts the document that isin turn recommended to the ISCD board of Directors before being adopted as newOfficial Positions. For more information, on this process, please refer to the ISCDAnnual Meeting website.

MEET THE PROFESSOR SESSIONSCase-based Discussions on Special Issues related to Skeletal health designed forsmaller audiences.

CASE-BASED WORKSHOPSLimited seating available in these hands-on computer workshops in the ISCD DxALab. Faculty walk through cases while attendees utilize the software to gainconfidence and skill in how to use the software.
