I am happy to announce to our readers that our

attorneys have initiated the process to register

International Salsa Magazine and

Salsamundi.com as a nonprofit foundation.

Within a few weeks we expect to have the

501C3 number from the IRS. This is very exciting

for all of us, because it means that will qualify

for grants. It is our intention to use these grants

funds as stipends for our correspondents. These

stipends will help to enrich the quality of our

content.

I want to thank all the persons who unselfishly

contribute their time and send material to

International Salsa Magazine for publication.

We are currently still looking for more

correspondents.

As a correspondent you are issued a SalsaMundi

press pass, you have the opportunity to

interview Salsa Stars, and inform on which clubs

are currently doing salsa events, what bands are

performing in your area, as well as interesting

salsa websites. We invite you to join our group,

and remember that we are both a monthly

magazine and a blog.

It is also important that our very democratic

Tres de los mejores timbaleros del mundo se presentaran el

3 de noviembre en el espectáculo llamado “Master

Session”.

Contara con la participación del legendardario Orestes

Vilató, una de las figuras más influyentes en el mundo de la

percusión Latina, también estará Endel Dueño más conocido

como “La enciclopedia del timbal”, quien estará

compartiendo tarima con Manolito Rodríguez. Endel Dueño

es admirador y estudioso de la carrera y estilo de Tito

Puente y a su vez músico destacado de agrupaciones como

La Primerísima de Puerto Rico, Fania All Stars y Puerto Rico

All Stars.

Estos tres maestros timbaleros harán alarde de su técnica,

velocidad, ritmo, clave y temperamento musical en un

espectáculo que incluirá un repertorio que va desde lo

clásico hasta lo contemporáneo, sin pasar por alto la Salsa, el

Rock y el Latin Jazz, acompañados por la banda "All Stars"

del patio.

Lo recaudado en este concierto, será a beneficio del querido y respetado timbalero Edgardo Morales, quien fue diagnosticado con cáncer de colon, para sufragar los altos costos de tratamiento médico.

Después de más de una década, Rubén Blades volverá a

cantar con los maestros de la Fania All Stars en un concierto

a realizarse en el Estadio Nacional de Lima el próximo 23 de

noviembre.

Cuando Blades ingresó a trabajar en el correo de la disquera

Fania nadie imaginó que al poco tiempo se convertiría en

toda una estrella de la salsa, que se codearía con sus ídolos,

como Cheo Feliciano, Ismael Miranda, Richie Ray y Héctor

Lavoe, entre otros.

Fue toda una revolución la que el joven panameño causó en

la salsa y, por tanto, su ingreso a la agrupación de estrellas

de la disquera Fania se tenía que dar de manera natural.

Aunque fueron pocas las grabaciones que hizo con Fania All

Stars y pocos los conciertos, Blades supo dejar huella.

Entre los temas que hizo Blades con Fania All Stars figuran:

“A los muchachos de Belén”, “Sin tu cariño”, “La palabra

adiós” y “Juan Pachanga”.

En este reencuentro de Rubén Blades con la Fania All Stars,

también participarán Papo Lucca, Eddie Montalvo, Roberto

Roena, Bobby Valentín, Larry Harlow, Ismael Miranda, Cheo

Feliciano, Adalberto Santiago y como invitado especial

estarán Richie Ray, Bobby Cruz y la Spanish Harlem

Orchestra , bajo la dirección el maestro Johnny Pacheco.

Alive and Kicking: "Vivito y Coleando" es un documental que relata la historia de uno de los mejores soneros del genero salsero. Ramón Luis Ramírez Toro; Nacido el 10 de septiembre del año 1941 en Santurce, Puerto Rico; mejor conocido como Chamaco Ramírez, su carrera musical estuvo, ligada a la de Tommy Olivencia, pues fue uno de los cantantes fundadores de la gran orquesta del trompetista boricua junto a Paquito Guzmán. Con Olivencia estaría en las primeras producciones de los años 60 en San Juan, antes de viajar a Nueva York y comenzar a trabajar para la banda del timbalero Kako Bastar, quien lo vincularía además a la ahora legendaria Alegre All Stars. Sin embargo, nunca se desvinculó totalmente de Olivencia y a mediados de los 70 grabaría algunos de sus éxitos más sonados: Planté Bandera, Evelio y la Rumba y Trucutú. Este gran artista siempre fue reconocido por sus impecables destrezas en el arte de la improvisación, dejando su huella e influencia sobre múltiples generaciones de cantantes. Chamaco Ramírez falleció el 27 de marzo del año 1983. Este documental recoge sus triunfos y tropiezos, vistos desde la perspectiva de sus amigos y todos aquellos que de alguna manera se han visto influenciados por su arte; documental realizado por la promotora Agúzate y la firma Deboka, bajo la dirección de Eduardo Cintrón y Omar Torres y la colaboración de Chamaco Ramírez Junior, la fecha prevista para su estreno será para el verano del año 2013.

Este sábado 6 de octubre se presenta el cantante

puertorriqueño Andy Montañez en la ciudad de Lima - Perú,

en el Centro de Convenciones del Hotel María Angola como

celebración de sus 50 años de trayectoria musical;

acompañado por el popular “Cara de Niño” Jerry Rivera y el

cantante puertorriqueño Eddie Santiago.

Ya son cinco décadas ininterrumpidas recorriendo el mundo,

haciendo música y llevando su legado por cientos de

escenarios en diferentes países del mundo donde le hacen

venia por su trayectoria, su sello personal y su indiscutible

talento.

En la ciudad de Los Ángeles se dieron a conocer las

nominaciones para la XIII Entrega Anual del Latin Grammy

2012; premios que la dan reconocimiento a lo mejor de

nuestra música latina, a la excelencia artística y técnica en

las artes y ciencias de la música grabada.

Felicitaciones a estas dos leyendas de la salsa por su

nominación al mejor álbum de salsa en la entrega de los

Latin Grammy por su trabajo “Eba say ajá” distribuido por

Ariel Rivas Music, lanzado el pasado 29 de Mayo y que se ha

situado en los primeros lugares de venta en el género

tropical. Su primer sencillo ha tenido miles de descargas

digitales.

Cheo Feliciano y Rubén Blades, además de prometer hacer

historia con "Eba say ajá", demuestran que entre ellos hay

respeto, cariño y una conexión que trasciende lo musical,

desde la admiración de fanático a artista, hasta convertirse

en colegas amigos.

La premiación Latin Grammy se llevará a cabo el próximo 15

de noviembre en el Mandalay Bay Events Center de Las

Vegas, Nevada.

El salsero nicaragüense Luis Enrique, conocido como el

“Príncipe de la Salsa” y nominado al Grammy Latino por su

producción “Soy y Seré”, cantará el próximo 8 de noviembre

en el Berklee College of Music, de acuerdo con la

información entregada por la prestigiosa escuela de música

ubicada en Boston (Massachusetts).

Ganador de dos Grammy Latino y un Grammy, el salsero

nacido en Managua está nominado este año a otro premio

Grammy Latino en la categoría Mejor Álbum Salsa por su

más reciente producción, “Soy y seré”.

Según la institución fundada 1945, Luis Enrique, con más de

25 años de carrera, “fue pionero de un tipo de

interpretación de una salsa suave y emotiva que abrió el

camino a otros exitosos cantantes latinos como Marc

Anthony y Victor Manuelle”.

Berklee es la escuela de música independiente más grande

del mundo y la principal institución dedicada al estudio y

enseñanza de la música moderna, con unos 4.000 alumnos y

500 profesores.

El cantante puertorriqueño Gilberto Santa Rosa estrenó su

nuevo sencillo “¿Estás ahí?”, que formará parte de su

próxima producción discográfica. El álbum que lleva su

nombre estará en las tiendas de discos a partir de

noviembre.

El álbum, titulado “Gilberto Santa Rosa”, estará en las

tiendas de discos a partir de noviembre.

La canción es de la inspiración del “Caballero de la Salsa” y

Rafy Monclova.

El exponente salsero, que se ha caracterizado por su

constancia y estilo en su trayectoria musical de más de 35

años, entró hace unos meses al estudio de grabación para

darle forma al nuevo álbum que produjo con Ricky

González, pianista de Marc Anthony, y el productor Louis

García.

Recientemente Gilberto se presentó en la ceremonia de

entrega de los “Premios Tu Mundo”, donde tuvo a su cargo

el cierre del espectáculo, con la interpretación de su éxito

“Déjate Querer”.

Una estatua con la figura del director del Grupo Niche, Jairo

Varela, forma parte de los homenajes que se le rendirán al

salsero en Colombia, tras su muerte el miércoles pasado en

Cali a causa de un infarto.

"Allí queremos ponerle una estatua de Jairo Varela. Además,

queremos que el 25 de diciembre iniciemos la Feria de Cali

ubicando a todas las orquestas de salsa de la ciudad, que son

más de 100, para que toquen", precisó.

El llamado Salsódromo será esta vez en honor al compositor

de éxitos como "Cali Pachanguero" y "Una aventura", donde

se interpretarán las canciones del maestro, con el Grupo

Niche a la cabeza del desfile.

El féretro con los restos de músico colombiano estarán en

cámara ardiente en el Hemiciclo del Concejo Municipal hasta

este domingo, cuando se llevará a cabo su sepelio al son de

tambores y trompetas.

Varela, de 62 años, falleció el miércoles en la sureña ciudad

de Cali, donde permaneció la mayor parte de su vida, tras

sufrir un infarto mientras se encontraba en su apartamento,

según informó su familia.

Esta entrevista surge atreves de un viaje

largamente esperado para vivir y sentir en carne

propia la isla de tantos encantos, madre de

infinidad de ilustres maestros de la música que

continuamente deleitan a un mundo entero con su

sencillez y pasión por la música: Cuba. Así que no

es casualidad que brillantes artista del calibré

como Winston Marsalis y Ry Cooder hayan sido

atraídos a visitar, compartir y aprender del

insaciable derroche de talento del músico Cubano.

Y compartiendo esa misma curiosidad y pasión por

la música y por esta isla de sin igual contraste de

belleza clásica y moderna, donde el ayer convive

con el hoy sin reservas ni conflicto, nos

encontramos gozando del increíble talento de sus

artistas.

Más no podríamos hablar de la música sin

mencionar el espíritu humano del cubano que

emana sin descanso esa pasión por su música, su

baile, y su tradición. Como tampoco debe faltar

hablar de su peculiar sentido del humor, su

optimismo, esas ganas simples de vivir, de gozar

sin importar las limitaciones día con día.

¿QUIÉN ES CUBA?

Cuba es la cara del ser humano que ha logrado sobrevivir

escases, limitaciones y restricciones, como las hay en

muchas otras tierras, pero que sin embargo ha convertido

esas mismas dificultades en una unión de hermandad, de

solidaridad y de comunidad. Se encuentra una gran

abundancia de optimismo, de constante lucha por lograr

más, por ser más, por progresar. En este sentido no hay

escases de alegría, de gozar o de reír. Es un sentir de vivir

cada momento sin importar más lo que no se tiene ahora,

pero lo que se puede lograr.

Gracias a la abundancia de creatividad e ingenuidad, en

Cuba se busca la forma de tener aquello que es prohibido

por su costo o falta de acceso, como unirse al mundo entero

por medio del internet. Pero a pesar de esto, en Cuba se vive

cada día, se goza cada día, se reí de lo bueno y de lo malo

también. Igualmente se aprecia el sol al amanecer sobre la

bahía como se despide la noche bajo la luna desde el

malecón...son en las cosas simples donde se encuentra la

paz.

Los que estamos afuera escuchamos de sus limitaciones y

restricciones, más creo que no hemos tenido la oportunidad

de apreciar a fondo la riqueza sin límite de este pueblo

luchador, alegre, optimista: el espíritu de ser Cuba.

En Cuba se dice que La Habana es la capital de todo Cubano,

yo diría que Cuba es la capital del espíritu humano que ha

aprendido a darle la buena cara a vivir la vida con sus

limitaciones y restricciones pero gozando de ella a cada

momento. Los cubanos se han enfocado en que la

abundancia sea más grande que la escasez, y no permitir

que les robe la pasión por su música, su arte, su hermandad,

su sentido del humor, y sus deseos de superación. En todo

momento vi este espíritu de abundancia, de alegría y de fe. Y

ante la frustración por lo que no se tiene no faltaba el buen

humor: ya que ante las noticias de fuera de que el cólera

estaba acabando con los Cubanos nos divertíamos pidiendo

tragos de ron con cólera.

Y hablando de pasión por la música y por el arte, de fe y

superación, uno de los primeros artistas que tuve el honor

de conocer y presenciar su talento fue Yamir.

Inevitablemente, mi primer instinto fue preguntar sobre el

origen de su nombre, obviamente nada Cubano. Yamir

cuenta que su mamá se enamoro de el nombre del

protagonista de una telenovela muy popular en Cuba,” El

Arabe” –ah, las telenovelas de cuantas historias serán

responsables. Pero quizás su instinto de madre le decía que

su hijo ya venía con una pasión por la música y el arte. Más

también fue ese mismo instinto que le pidió a su hijo

terminar una carrera universitaria. Hoy en día, Yamir es un

ingeniero mecánico pero cantante y músico de alma y

corazón.

LAUREN: ¿YAMIR COMO SUCEDE QUE EMPIEZAS TUS

PRIMEROS PASOS EN EL MUNDO DE LA MÚSICA?

Yamir: Fue realmente casualidad. Al entregarle mi diploma

universitario a mi mamá le dije que ahora sí me iba a dedicar

a lo mío más no tenía idea alguna como o donde empezar.

Estaba en la playa con un grupo de amigos cantando y se me

acerca una señora, Amirilis, que después me entero era

profesora de canto y me dice que le ha impresionado mi voz,

que soy un cantante por naturaleza y que debería pensar en

hacerlo profesionalmente.

Más ella no sabía que era exactamente mi meta, mi pasión.

Empecé a tomar clases de canto con ella en abril 1994 y fue

así el principio. También tuve la oportunidad de estudiar con

el reconocido profesor Hugo Osle en la academia “Mariana

De Ganich”.

L: SIN DUDA ALGUNA ASÍ PASA CUANDO YA ES EL DESTINO

DE ALGUIEN. ¿CUÁLES FUERON TUS PRIMERAS

PRESENTACIONES PROFESIONALES Y RECUERDAS LO QUE

SENTISTE AL PISAR UN ESCENARIO POR PRIMERA VEZ?

Y: Si por supuesto, eso nunca se olvida porque son

experiencias que cambian tu vida. Mi primeros logros como

cantante profesional fue en este mismo año en diciembre

(1994) al ganar el Premio Popularidad en el concurso de

interpretación Carlos Borboya interpretando la canción de

José José, “Lo que un día fue, no será”. Y el año siguiente

lograr el Gran Premio con la canción del talentoso maestro

Cubano José Valladares, “Fuiste Tú”.

L: MÁS NO SERÍA LA ÚNICA VEZ QUE FUISTE ELEGIDO MEJOR

INTÉRPRETE. TENGO ENTENDIDO QUE EN CUBA SE LLEVA A

CABO UN CONCURSO MUSICAL A NIVEL INTERNACIONAL

QUE LLEVA EL NOMBRE DE UNO DE LOS MÁS ILUSTRES

CANTA-AUTORES MEXICANOS. ¿NOS PODRÍAS HABLAR DE

TU PARTICIPACIÓN EN ÉL?

Y: Sí te refieres al concurso internacional Agustín Lara In

Memoriam que se lleva a cabo cada dos años. Sin duda

alguna uno de los eventos de mayor reconocimiento y

respeto a nivel internacional. Recibí el Gran Premio en el año

2000 en el concurso de canto Mariana de Ganich y de Nuevo

en el año 2004 con la canción “Maria Bonita” obtuve gran

premio en el ya mencionada Agustín Lara In Memoriam. Que

en esta ocasión se encontraban en el jurado Cesar Portillo de

la luz, compositor de varias canciones que han enriquecido

la canción cubana como “Contigo en la distancia” y “EL

Acuarelista de la poesía antillana”, Luis Carbonell. Y fue una

experiencia excepcional al estar rodeado de tan genios de la

música y recibir su opinión profesional.

En el año 2001 viaje a Alemania con la compañía de teatro

musical “PARADISE ROAD” formar parte de dicha compañía

me ayudo mucho a ser el cantante que soy pues el género

teatro musical al ser tan completo te ubica de una forma

espectacular en escena que cuando vienes a ver tienes

controlado todos los puntos, hasta el más pequeño del

escenario.

L: ¿VEO QUE HAS ELEGIDO CANCIONES CLÁSICAS,

BALADAS…QUE MÚSICA TE GUSTA ESCUCHAR MÁS?

Y: Me gusta mucho el jazz y tuve la oportunidad de

participar con la orquesta Jazz Band Habana en el 2005 y

aprendí y gocé bastante de esta experiencia, más me gusta

también los boleros, salsa, merengues, en verdad no creo

que se tanto elegir una si no de vivir y sentir al máximo cada

una de ellas.

L: ¿Y HABLANDO DE JAZZ, QUE ME FASCINA TAMBIÉN,

QUIENES SE ENCUENTRAN ENTRE TUS FAVORITOS?

Y: Son muchos pero de pronto se me viene a la mente Frank

Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, más admiro bastante el talento

versátil de Patti LaBelle y Beyonce.

L: ¿YA QUE MENCIONAS DE ADMIRAR Y DE APRECIAR LA

MÚSICA, HUBO ALGUIEN EN TUS PRIMEROS AÑOS QUE TE

MOTIVO, QUE RECONOCIÓ TU INQUIETUD Y DESEOS DE

CANTAR?

Y: Bueno, sí mi madre obviamente fue la primera más por su

preocupación de lo que implica llevar esta carrera me

empujo más hacia otras carreras, ingeniero, doctor, etc.

Pero me has hecho recordar a mi abuelo Cesar. A él le

fascinaba la música e igual gozaba verme siempre con la

radio cantando todo lo que tocaban y siempre mostraba su

gran entusiasmo.

L: ¿Y HUBO UN MOMENTO DECISIVO DONDE TE DISTE

CUENTA DE QUE CANTAR IBA SER TU VIDA O FUE UNA

DECISIÓN QUE EVOLUCIONO?

Y: Ese momento lo recuerdo como si fuese ayer…tenía 8

años y como te contaba me la pasaba con la radio cantando

y un día de eso, donde yo andaba con la radio paseándome

de un lado a otro, mi abuelo Cesar me llamo y por primera

vez me pregunto qué quería ser cuando estuviera grande –

creo el ya sabía la respuesta más quería escucharlo de mi – y

yo le conteste sin vacilar, sin gastar un segundo, que yo

quería ser un artista grande.

L: POR LO QUE VEO, HAS COSECHADO LOGROS

IMPORTANTES A TRAVÉS DE TU CARRERA. ¿CUÁLES SON TUS

METAS HOY Y QUE TE IMPULSA O TE MOTIVA A SEGUIR?

Y: Creo no es tan diferente a lo que más anhela un artista,

estampar tu nombre en un disco para que tu voz se escuche

y llegue a todo rincón del mundo y por consiguiente realizar

tu propio concierto con tu propia orquestra.

L: ESTA CARRERA ES DE MUCHOS SACRIFICIOS Y

OBSTÁCULOS Y REQUIERE DE PACIENCIA Y PERSEVERANCIA.

¿CUÉNTAME, EN TU OPINIÓN, CUALES SON LOS

OBSTÁCULOS MÁS DIFÍCILES QUE EL ARTISTA CUBANO

ENFRENTA PARA DARSE A CONOCER

INTERNACIONALMENTE?

Y: Pues sí, estamos limitados y son bastantes los obstáculos,

trabas que enfrentamos día con día, más yo diría que en

términos de abrirnos oportunidades a nivel internacional,

definitivamente nuestra situación emigratoria nos mantiene

limitados y limita las oportunidades que tenemos

disponibles para dar a conocer y exponer nuestro talento.

L: ¿QUE TAN IMPORTANTE SON LOS MEDIOS COMO EL DE

NOSOTROS, INTERNATIONAL SALSA MAGAZINE, PARA

APOYAR SUS DESEOS DE QUE SU MÚSICA CRUCE LAS

FRONTERAS?

Y: Creo que medios como los de su revista son cruciales para

la difusión de la música latina, los músicos latinos, y para

nosotros en especial para empezar un intercambio cultural y

apoyar así mismo cualquier meta que tengamos.

L: HAY TANTO MÁS POR HABLAR, POR COMPARTIR DE TI Y

DE TU MÚSICA. ¿MÁS PARA CONCLUIR CON ESTA

ENTREVISTA DIME CUAL ES LA CANCIÓN QUE TOCA LO MÁS

PROFUNDO DE TI, QUE AL ESCUCHAR SABES QUE ESTÁ

HABLANDO DE TI?

Y: Porque como dice la letra, una canción es un pretexto

para comunicarnos para darnos felicidad atreves de ellas y

de sus letras….más también es fuente de alientos para la

tristeza, es verdaderamente un idioma más y te puede llevar

a done tú quieras. Quisiera que en mi disco sonaran varios

géneros pero sobre todo la salsa cubana y el son ya que ahí

es donde precisamente me voy a destacar para que el que

escuche mi disco disfrute de ese sonido tan a sincopado de

nuestra salsa porque es una realidad tenemos un tiempo

diferente en cuanto a la salsa que se hace en el mundo que

de hecho es muy buena. ¿No se querida Lauren si conoces el

género musical “SONGO”? Si no lo conoces te invito a que

investigues y descubras una orquesta cubana de las primeras

por no decir la primera de nuestro país se llama “Los Van

Van” bajo la tutela del maestro Juan Formel. Ellos hacen un

songo espectacular y ese género también estaría en mi

disco. Un saludo a todos los salseros que disfrutan de esta

revista tan completa en cuestiones de cultura y para los no

salseros también desde cuba la isla más azul del planeta,

Yamir.

Antonio Guerrero is a contemporary Cuban artist. He was

born in 1968 in Matanzas Cuba, under the Castro regime.

Guerrero grew up in a household where artistic expression

was appreciated and encouraged; although materials were

not always available, his dreams and ideas were always

abundant.

In 1986 Antonio was drafted into the army and was

immediately transported to Africa to fight in the Ethiopian

War. He was inspired by the people and scenes of Africa and

he developed an interest in modern expressionism and

began to experiment with modern forms of visual art. The

popularity of his work led to exhibits of his paintings at the

military base.Guerrero returned to Cuba in 1988 where he

resumed his job as an artisan specializing in painting,

engraving woodcarving, sculpting and metal work. Feeling

increasingly oppressed by Cuba’s government, and unhappy

with the worsening living conditions, Antonio, along with

two other men, climbed into a raft they had secretly

designed and built. Floating off from the coast of Matanzas,

they were at sea for five days before being rescued and

brought to the U.S.

In January of 1995 Guerrero’s “Balseros del 92”, (“The

Rafters of 92”) was exhibited at Vanidades Gallery in Miami,

FL. This painting was part of a collection donated to the Jose

Marti Foundation in order to raise money for the Florida

International University student scholarships. This portrait of

himself along with his cousin and friend fleeing Cuba was

said to best commemorate the occasion. On May 17, 1996

Guerrero’s work was exhibited by U.S. Rep. Ileana Ros-

Lehtinen in Washington D.C. as a part of the “Cubans in

exile” exhibit.

Guerrero sees the world as a cosmic stage for human

activity. “I’m in the system like a computer programmer

writing codes with my sketchbook and brushes, playing the

critic, here to create and program the unconscious. Apart

from all the trouble we cause ourselves, I believe we are

immersed in a powerful and beautiful mystery. The fact of

our existence is a great riddle to me.”In his imaginary world

everything is possible, shadows fall according to nature’s

intent, trees grow from earth, and triangles refract light in a

realistic manner. But all of that realism is just Antonio’s way

of holding the scene together so that he could go on to

upset our normal expectations of reality.

Durante la madrugada del día 11 de octubre,

Madrid festejó el día de la Hispanidad de una

manera inigualable. Casi doce horas de fiesta,

parte de la tarde y toda la noche, se

necesitaron para disfrutar de un evento que

recogía música en vivo, espectáculo y baile, donde el plato

fuerte era El Gran Combo de Puerto Rico.

Miles de personas procedentes de todos los países

latinoamericanos y españoles se reunieron en la plaza de

toros La Cubierta de Leganés para celebrar la fiesta común

de todos ellos. Por ello, los cuatro conciertos que se dieron

en esa misma noche ofrecieron variedad en géneros

musicales para todos los presentes.

Sobre las 10 de la noche arrancó el primer concierto:

Segundo Rosero, uno de los máximos exponentes del género

popular ecuatoriano llamado rockolero. El espectáculo lo

continúo un famoso cantante bachatero. Este género

dominicano no podía faltar en un evento así de la mano del

llamado “El Príncipe de la Bachata”, Frank Reyes, quien

invitó a los presentes a cantar y a bailar todos sus éxitos. El

siguiente turno era para los conocidos exponentes del

vallenato El Binomio de Oro. Ellos derrocharon energía sobre

el escenario con sus acordeones y pusieron en pie a todo el

público, especialmente a los colombianos allí presentes.

Tras todos estos espectáculos y bien entrada la madrugada,

por fin llegó, ante un público expectante, lo más esperado

de la noche: El Gran Combo de Puerto Rico. Considerados

como La Universidad de la Salsa, la agrupación, además del

día de la Hispanidad, estaba celebrando en la capital

española su 50 aniversario desde su creación en el año 1962.

A pesar de llevar tantos años juntos, nos demostraron que

no pierden la esencia de su salsa ni sus fuerzas para

interpretarla. La mejor muestra de eso, a los vocalistas Jerry

Rivas, Charlie Aponte y Luis “Papo” Rosario se les vio

disfrutar como niños bailando sus características

coreografías a la vez que ponían su voz. Fue inevitable gozar

sus famosos y emblemáticos temas “Me liberé”, “Ojos

chinos”, “Trampolín” y “El aguacero” que, entre otros,

escuchamos esa noche. Fue un verdadero placer que el El

Gran Combo contara con los madrileños para su gira por su

50 aniversario y deseamos que sigan juntos muchos años

I'm listening to the salsariffic sounds of Tommy Olivencia on

my headphones. Furious conga solo dancing in my head

through my trusty Sony phones. Horn section converging

within into the jumpin' descarga. A timbales solo racing in

front of a swinging big band. It's being a rough day...things

not together..misunderstandings...heated

words...tense..momentary setbacks but setbacks

nonetheless. Tommy was celebrating his 40th Anniversary

with PR all stars: Paquito Guzman, Sammy Gonzalez, Hector

Tricoche, former Bay Area resident Melvin Martinez, Lalo

SEPTETO SANTIAGUERO – SON SUBLIME!

El Septeto Santiaguero have put out a new recording

"Vamos Pa La Fiesta" that is a beautiful testament to the

Cuban Son. This compositions are classic but not tired relics

of an authentic form of music. The music is full of

excitement, joy, regret, sadness and the gamut of emotions

that reflect life's experiences. Septeto Santiaguero are not

as well known as other groups that perform the Cuban son

but this recording may be their big breakthrough. Not only

are they incredible musicians and singers whose vocal

timbres and phrasing invoke the spirit of Cuni, Barroso,

Valdes and Piniero. They also feature special guest

collaborations from guests such as Ruben Blades, Cheo

Feliciano, Jose Alberto "El Canario"and percussionist

extraordinare Luisito Quintero. The result is a rich listening

experience which transports you to the island where the Son

is a respected national treasure that keeps evolving with

every new generation. You can feel the energy as this solid

group performs Son with a certain heartfelt afinque that is

truly their own. I had the opportunity to catch them live at

last year's Tempo Latino festival in France where they tore it

up! This recording should open doors for this fine group.

Luis Ayala “LUISITO AYALA” (Nace en Humacao, Puerto Rico,

el 13 de Octubre del año 1950). Destacado Trompetista,

Arreglista, Productor y Director musical de “La Puerto Rican

Power”. Exitosa agrupación con más de 35 años en el medio

y donde se dieran a conocer Soneros de la talla de Tito Rojas

y Osvaldo Román entre otros. Se inicio con la Orquesta

“Panamericana” de Don Lito Peña, la de Willy Rosario y la

banda de Willy Rodríguez.

ROBERTO LUGO “El Galán de la Salsa” (Nace un día 15 de

Octubre en New York, USA). Destacado Sonero, Compositor

y Actor de recordadas participaciones con la Orquesta de

Don Luis “Perico” Ortiz y quien como Solista se ha plegado a

la denominada Salsa Balada tanto como Compositor y como

excelente intérprete.

WAYNE GORBEA (Nace el 22 de Octubre del año 1950 en

New York, USA). Multi instrumentista (Violín, Trompeta y

Percusión), Arreglista, Director y Productor musical. Se inicia

con la Orquesta “Cuda”, “La Nueva Comparsa”, “El Conjunto

Salsa” en 1973 renombrado “Salsa Picante” a principios de

1990 y quien basa su propuesta en la llamada “Salsa Dura”.

El 22 Octubre de 1968 en New York, USA nace ISMAEL

“Maelo” RUÍZ. Maelo trasegó por la Orquesta de Pedro

“Conga” Lopez. En el presente es uno de los artistas salseros

romanticos de mayor difusión.

JIMMY BOSCH “Míster Moña” (Nace en New Jersey, USA el

18 de Octubre del año 1959). Soberbio Trombonista,

PONCHO SANCHEZ . Cantante, Percusionista y Director de

su propia Orquesta.

REINALDO JORGE (Nace en Santurce, Puerto Rico el 30 de

Octubre del año 1949). Excelso Trombonista que ha

integrado numerosas Orquestas: “La Fania All Stars”,

“Orquesta Harlow”, “Orquesta Ray Barreto”, “Orquesta

Héctor Lavoe”, “La Perfecta”, “Seis del Solar”, “Los Soneros

del Barrio” y un largo etcétera.
