Barcelona
Dear Colleagues,
We are delighted to extend a warm invitation to you to visit beautiful Barcelona for III’s 19th Annual Conference. In its first visit to Spain, the III could not have a more impressive setting and a more interesting programme.
Delegates will get to explore and enjoy the city. The main conference venues are the Hotel Majestic and the Imperial. The Sunday NextGen program, Academic and Judicial meetings are being held at the historic Barcelona Bar Association (ICAB). All venues are within 6 blocks, so no transportation will be provided and we suggest wearing comfortable walking shoes. The dress code for all events is business casual, except for the Legendary Dinner which is business attire.
The opening reception and dinner is being held at the Fabra Observatory that has an incredible view of the city. We will be outside for dinner “with the stars”, although as the event is near the summer solstice, may be a bit more sun than stars. The Legendary Dinner is being held at the Barcelona Maritime Museum. Maritime trade has always been important for Barcelona, especial-ly during medieval times, when Catalan rule reached all the way to Greece. Here you can take a closer look at the long tradition of Barcelonian seafaring. The large hall is especially impressive – it houses a replica of the galley known as the “Real”, which last sailed in 1571. It will take your breath away! This historic galley was involved in one of the most important battles on the Medi-terranean Sea – as the flagship of the Spanish Armada led by Don Juan de Austria.
The conference will open with a keynote presentation by Antonio Carrascosa, the Director of Resolution Planning and Disclosure of the European Union´s Single Resolution Board. Mr. Car-rascosa will be discussing the “European System to Deal with Distressed Banks and How the Contagion of a Financial Crisis is to be Avoided”. On Tuesday, Salla Saatsamoinen, Director General of the European Commission will be presenting on the Brand New EU Restructuring Directive, undoubtedly the hottest topic in the European legal landscape today.
As you can see from the detailed brochure, the panelists are of the highest caliber with topics of interest to practitioners, judges and academics worldwide. New this year are regional breakouts on Tuesday morning that will include not only a topic of specific regional interest but also infor-mation from the III Regional Co-Chairs regarding upcoming projects, events and membership. These regional sessions are open to all delegates including NextGen and non-members.
We look forward to welcoming you to Barcelona for what will be a truly memorable conference.
