This is not really my Slide Master. My FaCS Slide Master originally had a gradient burgundy background. It did not go well at all with the colors of my maps, so I decided to change the background to gray. By the time I finished the 20th gray slide I thought the presentation was DULL. I changed the gray to blue, but planned to import my FaCS slide into the presentation and leave it the gray. As I have explained in next slide there are only certain colors I am to have the logo with. When I tried to get back into the FaCS logo slide after the computer was de-virused, I could not get into that file (apparently it was one of two known casualties to the virus). I e-mailed the logo from the school computer again and tried to recreate the gray master slide. It wasnt very successful. It seemed my background options were more limited. I followed the directions on the computer to insert the new master into the American Heritage program but to no avail. I finally was able to copy the logo and move it to a blank slide but did not know how to change the color without affecting the every slide. I decided to make the final quiz answer slide also the ending slide. I had a little trouble with the hula animation as I was trying to get the animation reversed so that it looked more natural. I did not notice the Hawaiian music sound bits when I first made the slides so added them at the last. The beef clip art was on a cutting board and in trying to ungroup it from the board about destroyed it. I finally decided to ungroup the board from the meat which took about thirty drags and deletes to remove the cutting board. One of the thing I learned was how to edit motion path end points. I also learned that if you ungrouped items (the kettle) it caused problems with regrouping when using motion paths which is why I do not have an entrance for the title and fireplace. I was very pleased with getting the kettle to hook in the fireplace. My friend suggested the plop sound after the addition of each food to the kett4Corn An Important Food for New Englanders

I was pleased with using clip art of corn for the bullets. I had to learn how to copy a clip art from the internet and paste it from a clipboard. Unfortunately in later slides I was unable to unpaste some of the clip art from the clipboard. Of course, the corn was reduced in size.5Other Important New England FoodsMaple Syrup Berries

I purposely slowed the timing down on the Blueberry Mush and Blueberry Grunt so I when I do present this to a class I could briefly explain how each were made. Actually I will probably redo the timing once I write up the notes I plan to use on each slide. I reduced the size of the blueberries to use them as bullets. 6Middle Atlantic States

On the clip art of the map, Maryland was attached to the Southern states. While I had little trouble separating Texas and Oklahoma to add other area maps, Maryland proved difficult. I could ungroup it but it would not copy and paste. I finally determined that I must have pasted it over a text box when it was still grouped and that was not allowing me to ungroup. At least that is my guess. Finally I got it ungroup and have it animated in such a way that I dont think it is too noticeable that it is not with the other states. I was unable to get the songs to stop at a certain point which is why they must be clicked to stop at the end of the slide. A friend tried to help me find a way to stop the sound but also was unable to. Could you give me suggestions on doing this so I can add it to my slide later? The sound bit should be Yankee Doodle, but I have had trouble getting all the sounds to work when I go back in the program.7Middle Atlantic StatesA Melting Pot of Nations

More PIZZA sold here than in Italy!

I found on my computer a clip art of the pizza man but with a different pizza. In trying to ungroup that pizza is became all out of shape, so I deleted that pizza and substituted another pizza. I started to remove the red from that pizza but realized that it hurting the look of the pizza, so I just enlargened that pizza and animated it so that hopefully it looks like the man is tossing it.8Pennsylvania Dutch CookingWaste Not, Want Not Foods

Each meal contains seven sweet and seven sour foods.The animation of the different foods is slow so that I can narrate as the food names appear. I think this picture came from the internet. I found many of my pictures by searching Google.9Southern States

This was the group of states that I removed Maryland from, along with the black border on the group of Southern states.I was not able to bring in one state at a time which, since there are so many states, was probably a good thing. Again I added music but it needs to be clicked at the end of the slide to stop. When we have food labs during this unit I always find music that goes with the region to play during lab class, such as jazz for the South. This jazz music clip also did not work when I went back the next night, and I also can not find it on in my clip art tonight.10Fish- trout, bass, catfish Shellfish- crayfish, crabs, oysters, shrimp

The pictures and sound clip were from my computer clip art. I actually learned how to adjust the goose honking from another slide that I did later. During this project I had several things that I had planned on having a friend help me with when I finished the basic slides. By the time I finished the last slide that list of many had been reduced to just a couple of items. I definitely learned as I went. I also learned to move the sound symbol of the slide as this one showed up on the slide during play.11Creole CookingCombines Food Customs of:

Jambalaya GumboRed Beans and RiceThese pictures were down loaded from the internet. They were ones that I saved to the clipboard and then could not figure how to get them off. Several slides later I discovered that I needed to save them to my picture file and NAME them so I recognized the slide they would go in. Once I figured that out the process went much quicker. I also tried to write the names of the food vertically, in which jambalaya and red beans and rice were much too long for. Later when I tried to write vertically, that text feature no longer worked. These pictures were also downloaded from the internet from a Google search. I tried to keep my sentences to six words or less but did not like the way the subcaption sounded, so we now have seven words. Sweet Potato PieThe pictures were taken from the internet. One of the picture or drawing tools that I had been shown how to use, but had not personally used before was the cropping tool. I found it to be a great help on pictures such as these. It was also very easy to do.14Midwest States

Oklahoma was added to this group of states. Oklahoma came outlined but I was unable to get the drawing tool to outline the other states or even the picture of the other states. When I tried to add a border to Kansas it made a border box most of the states. One of the last items I was able to change was to add a western border to Kansas and get it to appear in the map gracefully. I slowed down the entrance of the state names when there were several states as I found I had trouble saying them aloud fast enough. I was unable to find a song that I liked for the Midwest and West states.15Breadbasket of the World U.S. PRODUCES YEARLY

I had trouble finding pictures of buffets (other than restaurants) and potlucks so I decided just to insert a picture of a family picnic.17West and Southwestern States

This group of states had to be ungrouped from two different maps, but was the easiest to puzzle together. This was also the reason the animation is different on this slide since all the states had to be ungrouped and puzzled together to make the slide look right. Son-of-a-gun Stew,Beans and BiscuitsI searched for a better cowboy, but the ones that I found were just not much better, at least the ones that were free. I was pleased to find the animated fire in my clip art file. I also found a kettle over a fire. I ungrouped the pink background from the kettle and placed it over the animated fire so that when it plays it looks like flames are coming out of the fire. I tried to remove some of the logs but it left a white background. Thank goodness for the undo button. I thought briefly about trying to ungroup the cowboy and have him walk to the fire but realized that there would not be any way that I could adequately replace the wagon wheel and wagon where the space would be where his body was. 20Foods from Across the Rio Grande

TacosTamalesSopapillas I found this clip art of Mexico and then found a Mexican transporting taco which I thought was perfect for the slide. Both pictures were resized. I titled the majority of my slides and wrote possible headings on them the first night that I worked on it. So I basically made my outline, in slides, first and then worked on ways to best convey the message of each slide. When I found this Mexico map and taco cart clip art I realized that it would work great for the slide titled Foods from Across the Rio Grande.21Pacific Coast

Since vegetables and fruits are such a big part of the Pacific area, especially since those states provide so much food to the rest of the states I needed a slide just for them. I could not find a better papaya picture, but since I do not think many people realize that papaya is grown in the States I felt I needed to have it. I rearranged the fruits several different ways and decided that this was the best arrangement. Since the students will know the names of most of the foods I did not insert the names near the fruit, but put the text in the middle of the slide. This is probably the one slide that I am most disappointed in. Once I come up with a better idea I will probably replace it.23Alaskan Foods

This is probably my most boring and easiest slide. I debated whether to put my hula girl in this slide but decided to wait a few more slides. The music clip was 52 seconds so again it needs clicked to stop.27HawaiianFoodsEthnic Influences:

This was the first slide that I learned to crop pictures, and how to get to the crop tool, after doing this slide and redid several other clip art and photos on other slides. I also learned to program the sound bit on this slide, but not until I put in the motion paths for all the clip art and photos. If I would have realized how long the chicken clucked I would have had him wander around longer. I did not change it as I have had trouble before changing motion paths when everything was done. I found the pig squeal sound bit after I had finished the majority of the slides. The clip art and pictures were cropped and resized. I tried several different entrances before deciding on the finished ones. I was unable to get the pig pulled out of the slide enough which is why his butt dissolves out. I finally realized that instead of dragging the sound bit symbol of the slide I could check hide the sound. 28The Islands

I have added sound to other slides for effect. This had so littleother than a pretty picture that I felt it must have Hawaiian music. Box A, B, and D should link with slide 32; and box C with slide 33. I had separate answers for each box but they kept messing up so I eliminated two of the no answers.31
