The I, II and III places were bagged by the Christ University, MES college and Mount CarmelCollege(MCC) respectively. Being the host institution the winner trophy was given to MES and runners – up trophy toMCC.

3. Magnificence of Mathematics Celebration of National Year of Mathematics

December 3-4, 2012

The Mathematics fraternity of Christ University organized a two day campus-wide celebration in connection withthe national year of mathematics that marked the 125th birth anniversary of Sri.Srinivasa Ramanujan, the greatIndian Mathematician, on the 3rd and 4th of December,2012. It had an array of events/competitions such as Creativewriting, photography, poster making along with puzzles, crosswords, Sudoku, fun with numbers, flash mob, treasurehunt and various other math tricks and games!

4. Sequence- An intra collegiate Mathematics fest, December 15, 2012

The event was inaugurated by Dr. Anil Joseph Pinto, Registrar, Christ University.The events like Icebreaker + Mathematical Jingle, PotPuri, Maze, Word Building, Mental Math, Pictionary,Pencil Sketching of Mathematicians were held.

All the events were highly appreciated by students, PCM combination won the overall Trophy of outstandingcombination.

5. IV National Conference on “Emerging Trends In Graph Theory”, February 15-16, 2013

The department of Mathematics, Christ University, Bangalore organized the IV National Conference on

Emerging Trends in Graph Theory on 2013 February 15 and 16.

6. Two day special PG Workshop on “Current Topics in Mathematics” March 1-2, 2013

A two day PG Special workshop on “Current Topics in Mathematics” was organized exclusively for postgraduate students to motivate the students to take up research in their specialized topics, during March 1-2, 2013 inassociation with Karnataka Science and Technology Academy. Post graduate students of Mathematics fromChrist University, Mount Carmel College, Oxford College, Government Science College, MES College and CentralCollege are participated in this workshop. 93 students ( 61 from Christ and 32 from other colleges) are attended theworkshop. Seven eminent personalities from various institutes are invited as resource persons. The workshop wasinaugurated by Dr. H. S. Nagaraj, Member KSTA, and Director of BASE. He highlighted the importance ofcreativity, self learning and research orientation while doing PG programme.

At the end of the workshop multiple choice questions test was conducted on the topics covered in the workshop.The winners Mr. Taral D Shah and Ms. Femlin Pious from Christ University and Mr. Ramakrishna from Oxfordcollege are awarded with Rs. 5,000/-, Rs. 3000/- and Rs. 2000/- respectively. Certificates were issued for all theparticipants.

Other Activities:

Final year M Sc students participated two day workshop on “History and aspects of Mathematics”conducted by National Academy of Sciences in July 2012 at Indian Institute of science, Bangalore.

B Sc students participated in the workshop “Mathematics for planet Earth 2012” organized by theABACUS Club, Department of Mathematics, St. Joseph’s College, Bangalore in collaboration withTheoretical Sciences(ICTS)-TIFR, Bangalore on 25th August 2012.

I and II B Sc students participated in an Inter-Collegiate fest “Mathematics Day” during August 28, 2012.They won Second prize in Sudoku event.

“Soft Skill Training” programme was conducted to Second year MSc students during 16-17 November2012.

Two First year students secured the first place in Model Exhibition competition held on 7th December 2012conducted by Department of Mathematics, Mount Carmel College, Bangalore.

Mathematics students participated in a 5 day Science Academies’ Lecture workshop on Mathematicsconducted during 17-21 December 2012 by the ABACUS Club, Department of Mathematics, St. Joseph’sCollege, Bangalore.

Department of Mathematics participated in “Daksh” a career fair organized by Christ University Bangaloreon 23rd January, 2013.

Discrete Mathematics Forum (ADMA) meeting was held on 17th February 2013 in the University premises.

Mathematics project exhibition was conducted by Department of Mathematics for the Mathematicsstudents on 18th February, 2013 and selected teams participated in the Science Exhibition.
