The International Classification of Diseases (ICD) is the standard diagnostic tool for epidemiology, health management and clinical purposes.

ICD

Page 5: international classification of diseases

This includes the analysis of the general health situation of population groups. It is used to monitor the incidence and prevalence of diseases and other health problems.

Page 6: international classification of diseases

It is used to classify diseases and other health problems recorded on many types of health and vital records including death certificates and health records.

Page 7: international classification of diseases

In addition to enabling the storage and retrieval of diagnostic information for clinical, epidemiological and quality purposes,

these records also provide the basis for the compilation of national mortality and morbidity statistics by WHO Member States.

Page 8: international classification of diseases

It is used for reimbursement and resource allocation decision-making by countries.

Page 9: international classification of diseases

A system for classification of diseases is needed whereby diseases could be grouped according to certain common characteristics, that would facilitate the statistical study of disease phenomena.

Page 10: international classification of diseases

Many approaches were tried to classify diseases.

Jhon Graunt in 17th century in his study of Bills of Mortality, arranged diseases in an alphabetical order.

Page 11: international classification of diseases
