Studying international business is thoroughly enjoyable and the degree appealed to me because you can complete it in just two years. We’re encouraged to ask a lot of questions, and because the classes are small they are very interactive. The strong industry focus also helps to explain how businesses work in the real world, and provides a strong link between theory and reality.Eugenie WongBachelor of International Business. What is international business? Almost everything we do today has an international aspect. Today’s global climate means businesses of all sizes need to know how to operate in an international environment. People with the skills to work across cultures and borders are required in:

— small companies that use overseas suppliers

— big brands that operate in all four corners of the globe

— professional firms, including law and accountancy firms, that advise Australian companies with international operations, or help international companies looking to set up operations in Australia

— governments, who facilitate trade negotiations and investments.

Why study international business?International business provides an in-depth understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing organisations around the world. Not only will you learn how to understand and work in different cultures, but you will also learn how to work with, and manage, people from different countries and backgrounds — a vital skill for top executives.

International business skills will help you adapt to the evolving world of business, and give you the flexibility to work in a number of legal and government frameworks. You will also learn about international supply chains; the importance of understanding the global economy, and gain a global perspective that will help you consider the ethical implications of operating in international environments.

If you’re interested in International Business we have two degrees on offer:

Bachelor of International Business

Bachelor of Business (major in International Business)

Why study international business?Studying international business is your passport to a career in the global economy, equipping you to work anywhere in the world.

Careers in international businessThere are a number of roles that require people with an understanding of business on a global scale. As international business is a broad field, the jobs that come with it are just as varied. Studying international business at Monash Business School will give you the opportunity to apply your knowledge in a global business context. Whether you’re working for a multi-million dollar company or a small start-up, studying international business will give you the ability to work across different fields and in different countries.

As an international business graduate you can:

— Advise on the impact of international tax laws and currencies as an international accountant.

— Pursue a career as a foreign affairs adviser, diplomat or business analyst.

— Manage imports and exports for international trading companies or work with governments on import and investment promotion activities.

— Work as an international economist, providing advice to companies and firms about economic trends and projections.

— Become a general manager, marketing executive or supply chain manager for a large, multinational company.

Bachelor of International BusinessThe Bachelor of International Business is a specialist degree designed for driven students who want to become the global business leaders of the future. The degree adopts a trimester model, which means there are three teaching periods a year. This structure allows you to complete your degree in two years instead of three. You will study at our city location, in a new, custom-designed space in the heart of Melbourne’s bustling business hub. You will gain an understanding of international business principles — business operations, international relations, trade and investments, the effects of politics and culture — and learn to apply your knowledge in a global business context.

The degree offers the choice of two specialist sequences, giving you the opportunity to tailor your studies to your career goals.

— Select the international business sequence to pursue a career in a multinational company as an entrepreneur, foreign affairs adviser, risk analyst, marketing manager, or import/export adviser.

— Or choose the professional accounting sequence and study foundation units to satisfy the educational requirements for associate membership of and entry to the CPA Program of CPA Australia.

This degree adopts a flipped classroom teaching style where students gain first exposure to new material outside of class, typically through videos and readings. The class time is used to solidify the learning through strategies such as discussions, debates and problem solving.

Designed with student needs in mind, the learning environment ensures you have the support to succeed. With smaller class sizes, you will have greater interaction with teaching staff, as well as be encouraged to participate, collaborate, and express your opinions. A more intimate learning environment also means you’ll have more opportunity to develop interpersonal skills, and build strong relationships within a diverse community of like-minded students.

“The flipped classroom method took a little time to get used to, but I’ve found it really beneficial. Being able to communicate with the lecturer instantly is really good, and I don’t feel like I’m getting lost in a crowd of people or blending into the background. Getting instant feedback and having concepts explained personally is great!”

“Being able to work in groups is a vital element in business and it’s particularly important when you are trying to understand and learn from other people. I love this aspect of the course as I am able to work with people from a range of backgrounds and cultures, which is an important skill to have in the workforce.”

“The best thing about the Bachelor of International Business is hearing from the industry speakers. It’s great to be able to hear people’s experiences and I learn a lot from these sessions. The flipped classroom model really suits me. I get a better understanding of the content because it gives me the opportunity to familiarise myself with the new material and then ask questions in the workshops. I also love the location, the city is always buzzing and there are so many easy transport options to get there.”
