time between ANMC and NSHC. Originally from Fowler, Mich., Dr. Pohl
attended undergraduate and medical school at Michigan State
University. He completed his residency at the University of
Michigan. He started working for NSHC
in Oct. 2016.Jay Flynn, MDInternal Medicine/PediatricsDr. Flynn
was born in Kentucky and attended the University of Kentucky for
medical school. He then moved to Ann Arbor, Mich., where he did his
Internal Medicine/Pediatrics training at University of Michigan. He
moved to Alaska after finishing residency in 2016 and splits his
time between NSHC and ANMC.

Angela Torres, MDFamily Practice/OBDr. Torres has been
practicing family medicine for 15 years. New to NSHC, she is from
Oklahoma and has lived in Anchorage and Wasilla in the past.
Lourdes Borges Ruiz, MDFamily Practice/OB(Not pictured) Dr.
Borges Ruiz is board certified in Family Med-icine and has been
actively providing patient care for almost 20 years. She received
her medical degree from the Univ. of Penn-sylvania in 1996. She
finished her residency at Regions Hospital in St. Paul, Minnesota
and completed a Community Medicine Fellowship focusing in
obstetrics.
Richelle Fisher, PANome Primary CareRichelle was born in Hawaii
and grew up in rural Missouri. She graduated with a master’s degree
in Physician Assistant Studies in 2003 from Missouri State
University. She has worked with NSHC since 2004 and she currently
works in same day access.
Megan MacKiernan, PANome Primary CareMegan is from western North
Carolina and received her master’s of medical sciences at Methodist
University in Fayetteville, NC. She has worked at NSHC since 2013
and is a CDL provider.
Thomas Wonderlich, MDFamily Practice/OBDr. Wonderlich attended
college at Gonzaga University before joining the Peace Corps for
two years in Paraguay. He then went on to the Tulane School of
Medicine and completed his residencies in Utah and Idaho. His
passion is obstetric care.
Stephen Daniel, MDFamily Practice/DiabetesDr. Daniel is
originally from Texas and New Mexico and moved to the NSHC region
in 2004. He has been a board-certified family physician since 1996
and has 28 years of experience and graduate work in cross-cultural
medicine. Dr. Daniel runs the diabetes clinic at NSHC.

Matthew Dammeyere, MDNome Primary CareDr. Dammeyer obtained his
medical degree from Uni-versity of Minnesota Medical School in
Minneapolis. He has worked in Minnesota and North Dakota.

Donna “Roxanne” Richards, MDFamily PracticeDr. Richards grew up
in Michigan and attended the University of Michigan for her
undergraduate studies. She completed medical school at the Ohio
State University and family medicine residency at the University of
Virginia. She began working for NSHC
in 2015 as a locum provider and signed on permanently in
2018.
Kristina Tracy, NPNome Primary CareKristina joined NSHC in
December 2017. She completed her master’s degree in nursing at the
University of Toledo in 2016. Prior to coming to Nome, she
practiced internal medicine, as well as emergency medicine. She is
certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner.
Teri LeMay, NPHealth Aide TrainingTeri is an Adult Nurse
Practitioner originally from Tennessee. She has a background as an
Emergency Room Nurse. After schooling to become a nurse
practitioner, Teri headed to Nome to work with the HAT program.
Kim Matthews, NPHealth Aide TrainingKim has worked for NSHC for
over 10 years. She spent seven years as a mid-level practitioner in
Brevig, Teller, Wales and Diomede before moving to Nome to join
Health Aide Training. She graduated in 1996 from the University of
Nebraska Medical Center as a Family Nurse Practitioner.
Martina Sczensy-Aleshnick, MDFamily PracticeDr. Sczesny grew up
and attended medical school in Germany before meeting her husband
and moving to the U.S. to pursue her career in family practice
medi-cine. She spent 20 years in her private practice and most
recently worked in the Navajo Nation.
Kristine Beck, PANome Primary CareKristine grew up in Wyoming
and most recently lived in Colorado. She attended undergraduate
school at the University of Wyoming and Physician Assistant school
at the University of Colorado Auschutz Medical Campus. She enjoys
women’s health, working with teens
and doing procedures.

Ryan Sherer, MDFamily Practice, GambellBorn and raised in Dodge
City, KS, Dr. Sherer graduated from Kansas University School of
Medicine. He worked as a General Medical Officer with the U.S. Navy
and spent the last 16 in private practice with his wife, who is
also a family physician. Dr. Sherer has focused his practice on
geriatrics with a side of sports medicine.
Tim McGarry, NPNome Primary CareTim was raised in Deerfield, NH
and went to the University of New Hampshire in Durham, where he
received his bachelor’s in kinesiology. He went on to receive an
associate degree of nursing from New Hamp-shire Technical Institute
and returned to UNH for his
master’s in nursing. He moved to Nome in spring 2018.Dan Thomas,
PAHealth Aide TrainingDan has lived in Nome most of his life and
worked for NSHC as a behavioral health counselor, inpatient RN, VHS
Supervisor/Instructor, and Physician Assistant, including three
years at the Unalakleet clinic. He has been a Health Aide Trainer
since 1997.
Nicole Thomas, PANome Primary Care, LocumNicole grew up in Nome
and Unalakleet. She attended physician assistant school at George
Washington University in Washington D.C. and has been working as a
PA for 10 years, including the last several years at NSHC.
Sandi Nahiri, NPNome Primary CareSandi practiced as a registered
nurse for nearly 30 years in different fields before advancing her
education as a nurse practitioner in family practice. She is
currently earning her doctoral degree in nurse praactice from
Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska. Her professional passion
is intercultural nursing.

practicing family medicine for 39 years. He came to NSHC after
practicing in Kansas and New Zealand.
