Quick True false

The first step in safe operation of your vehicle is a proper pre-trip

Of course the Professional Motor Vehicle Operators here at SCR know this is false

While a proper pre-trip before taking your vehicle out on your shift is vital to being safe while we work the first step in safe operation of that vehicle is for us to get proper rest

Our responsibility to being safe at work starts at home To quote Frank Ciccarella the Vice President of Safety for SCR ldquoSafety is the absence of riskrdquo

When we secure proper rest during our off-time we greatly reduce risk therefore increasing our chance of being safe So as we enter the holidays I would like to urge each of you to please be safe at home Get your rest before coming to work Be careful with all the additional electrical items being used to light up the season Make sure if you use a live tree you keep it watered Wear gloves if you are using spin glass

ldquoAngel Hairrdquo Turn off all lights on your trees and decorations when leaving the house or going to

bed Be careful on ladders Be careful with the food you eat And please remember

to protect your license and your job Donrsquot drink and drive Yoursquore a pro Whether at work or not I expect you to be the safest on the road Also protect your identity take care when you shop

online I find using a pre-paid card when purchasing online products gives me

great peace of mind

I pray each and every one of you and your families have a peaceful and yet joyous holiday Letrsquos end the year safe and start the New Year strong

We understand as the operators of our fleet your opinions and suggestions need to be heard We need to create regular proactive and open dialog with you so that we can hear your concerns and suggestions on changes and upgrades that we look to implement

Thus we have began the process by adjusting the placement of the MDTrsquos to a non-obstructive less distracting location in the vehicles As we work to improve vehicle design specification and technology I would appreciate your continual feedback on the newly proposed MDT bracket and placement

Dispatcher Operator Relations

B R I D G I N G

As the pace dispatch manager and a former operator at SCR one of my biggest concerns has always been how to bridge the gap between dispatchers and operators working relationships One of things Irsquom doing to bridge that gap is hiring more dispatchers to decrease the driver to dispatcher ratio from 421 down to a more manageable ratio By decreasing this ratio this will improve relations by making radio modes more manageable which means more personal attention with less operators per mode As we make these improvements we ask that you

T H E G A Pcontinue to be patient and professional during this process And remember ROME was not built in a day but when they finished it what a beautiful site

Regards Omar Helm

As changing weather patterns are fast approaching it is time to review the rules about following distance Remember that our company policy is to have a minimum of 4 seconds time between your vehicle and the vehicle in front of you Four seconds is counted when the vehicle in front of you passes a fixed object such as a pole you start counting 1001 1002 1003 and 1004 If you reach the same pole prior to 1004 you must slow down as you are following to close and going too fast When inclement weather is upon us you should add two seconds to the count so

it would be 1001 1002 1003 1004 1005 1006 Remember that rear end collisions are preventable by slowing down and adjusting your following distance

Please practice good following distance procedures to stay safe and avoid rear end

The City College Shuttle contract came about from a smaller contract that we started for City Colleges We were operating a parking lot shuttle transporting students and faculty from a remote parking lot to Malcolm X College

Once the parking lot shuttle was determined a success plans started coming together for a district- wide shuttle program that would incorporate all the City College Campuses and local CTA bus and train stations Currently The CCC shuttle services 11 Campuses and 6 CTA Train stations The shuttle is a free convenient travel option for students that connects them to various CTA train stations and campuses Hours of operation are Monday - Friday from 7am - 11pm

Currently we have transported over 5000 students and school faculty

Many of our employees my still attend a city college campus that we service Interested parties see their campuses administrative office and sign up for the service

With the winter season approaching many student are taking advantage of the free shuttle and depend on SCR to get them to their respective destinations safely

Some SCRCity College Shuttle facts

- SCR has been contracted with the City Colleges since January 2014

- All busses are equipped with WIFI internet service so students can connect and browse the internet for free
