Intermediate Echocardiography Course Message from The Hong Kong College of Emergency Medicine You are cordially invited to join the college of HKCEM in the Intermediate Echocardiography Course on 20 June 2017 at Princes of Wales Hospital. If you are interested to join the course, please visit the following link for on-line registration; College’s website: http://www.hkcem.com/courses/iec.php Critical Care Echocardiography (CCE) Akin to its general ultrasound counterpart, CCE is becoming an indispensible part of routine diagnosis and management in modern critical care medicine. In trained hands, CCE provides immediate feedback on cardiac function and haemodynamic status of the critically ill patients. It helps answering common questions such as: What is causing the hypotension, shortness of breath or chest pain in my patient? What is the cardiac function? Are there any signs of right-sided pressure overload? If present, is it chronic or acute? What is the fluid status? Is it safe to give fluid? Are there any pericardial effusion and cardiac tamponade? Are there any vegetation and/or significant valvular disease? The increasingly important role of CCE in modern critical care medicine is reflected in the recent incorporation of CCE by the ANZ College of Intensive Care Medicine in its training programme. Other colleges, such as the Australasian College of Emergency Medicine and locally the Hong Kong College of Anaesthesiologists and the Hong Kong College of Emergency Medicine is expected to implement similar curriculum in the coming short future. Intermediate Echocardiography Course Intermediate Echocardiography Course is a locally developed course with the aim to equip our candidates with some simple but important measurements. We are glad to have the NICCER team as our teaching faculty. NICCER is a well internationally recognized team in teaching CCE courses around the world for many years. In fact, many of our local critical care leaders did attend their courses or even have clinical attachment in their laboratory. What will you learn in the course? If you are not satisfying with eye-balling assessment, its time to do a bit more We will discuss o Right ventricular systolic function o Left ventricular systolic function o Left ventricular diastolic function o Dynamic outflow obstruction o Interactive Case Sharing
