I exhort our students to put their best foot forward with hard work and excel in the forthcoming exams. I laud the staff for well preparing the students in achieving their goals. We will continue to put forth concerted effort for the overall development of our students. I would also like to take this opportunity to wish our staff and students a festive season filled with happiness. On 27th September 2013, 16th ISTE STUDENTS NATIONAL ANNUAL CONVOCATION was held at Periyar Maniammai University, Tanjavur, Tamilnadu. The Students of the Department of Computer Science & Engineering, T. John Institute of Technology Shebin Binoy, Shiraz Ahmed, Tony George & Vivek Joseph attended convocation and received the NIT KOZHIKODE NATIONAL AWARD for Best B.TECH Project in Computer & Communication Engineering for the project entitled “HASBE: Hierarchical Attribute Based Solution for Scalable and Flexible Access Control in Cloud Computing”. Hearty congratulations to Ms. Natali Galahitiyawa - B.Sc Fashion and Apparel Design, Course and College topper for the batch 2010-2013 with 81% aggregate Hearty congratulations to Swathy Nandakumar of III Sem, BA (JEP), TJC for securing 100 marks in Psychology in the II Semester, Bangalore University Examination. NIT KOZHIKODE NATIONAL AWARD AT 16TH ISTE STUDENTS NATIONAL ANNUAL CONVOCATION, 2013

Message from the CAMPUS DIRECTORWe have just crossed an engaging quarter of new admissions,

orientations, events and workshops and stepped into the quarter which is loaded with festival holidays and university exams as well. I exhort our students to put their best foot forward with hard work and excel in the forthcoming exams. I laud the staff for well preparing the students in achieving their goals. We will continue to put forth concerted effort for the overall development of our students. I would also like to take this opportunity to wish our staff and students a festive season fi lled with happiness.

On 27th September 2013, 16th ISTE STUDENTS NATIONAL ANNUAL CONVOCATION was

held at Periyar Maniammai University, Tanjavur, Tamilnadu. The Students of

the Department of Computer Science & Engineering, T. John Institute of Technology Shebin Binoy, Shiraz Ahmed, Tony George & Vivek Joseph attended convocation and received the NIT KOZHIKODE NATIONAL AWARD for Best B.TECH Project in

Computer & Communication Engineering for the project entitled “HASBE: Hierarchical Attribute Based Solution for Scalable and Flexible Access Control in Cloud Computing”.

Hearty congratulations to Ms. Natali Galahitiyawa - B.Sc Fashion and Apparel Design, Course and College topper for the batch 2010-2013 with 81% aggregate

As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility, TJGI donated traffi c barricades to Hulimavu Police Station on August 29, 2013. The barricades were delivered by Mr. Rajesh Naik (Head of Marketing, TJGI), Mr. Anand P M (System Manager, TJGI), Mr. Ponnacha (Manager Estates) and the same were received by Police Inspector Mr. Jayaram & Assistant Sub-Inspector Mr. Fakkrudhin. The initiative was appreciated by the police offi cials.

Alumni Meet – 2013 by TJGIT. John Group Alumni Meet was held on July 13, 2013 and was a big success with more than 70 alumni participating. The meet was presided over by Wg. Cdr. (Retd.) DAK Yohan, Advisor to Chairman, Campus Director Wg. Cdr. (Retd.) P. Sambasivan, all Principals, Dean and HODs of TJGI. The event started with the alumni sharing memories of their good old days in the college and was happy to see their college grow to such a beautiful campus in terms of infrastructure, number of faculties, students, etc. They also gave valuable suggestions on improving

JOHN COLLEGE OF PHARMACYISO Assessment Report 2013 - TJCP Efforts ImpressiveAs per the latest ISO Assessment Report - 2013 for TJGI, it has been mentioned that “The noteworthy efforts captured in T. John College of Pharmacy are very impressive”. The college hereby thanks ISO College Coordinator Mrs. Khalida Khanum (Professor) along with Dr. K. Krupanidhi (Professor), Mr. Ranajith (Sr. Lecturer), Mr. Madhu (Sr. Lecturer) and Mrs. Bharathi Arali (Sr. Lecturer) for their sincere efforts.

Visit by President of Karnataka State Pharmacy Council to TJCPTJCP invited Dr. D.A. Gundu Rao, President of Karnataka State Pharmacy Council to the college on September 27, 2013. Dr. D. A. Gundu Rao was impressed with the infrastructure and facilities provided to the students. He spoke in detail about the role and importance of Pharmacists in

community health care. Students of M. Pharma, B. Pharma and Pharma. D attended the program.

Pharmacist’s Day in TJCPTJCP celebrated Pharmacist’s Day on September 25, 2013. On this occasion, Pharmacist Oath framed by Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam, Former President of India was taken by the students.

Teachers Day Celebrated on September 5, 2013Students organized programs to wish their teachers on this day. The Principal highlighted the importance of being sincere and responsible to the responsibilities allotted, which is required for professional growth.

Inauguration of Tennis Court, TJCP A Tennis Court of international standards was inaugurated in the college campus on September 4, 2013 by Chairman Dr. Thomas P John along with Campus Director Wg. Cdr. (Retd.) P. Sambasivan and Advisor to Chairman Wg. Cdr. (Retd.) David Yohan. The tennis court was constructed under the support of Principal of TJCP and Mr. Balraj, Senior Administrator along with Mr. Supreet, International Chair Umpire for tennis. For intensive tennis coaching in the campus, interested students are requested to contact Physical Education Director for TJGI, Mr. Ajay at 09567222212.

ConferenceMs. Tinku Mondal, Lecturer, TJCP attended a conference on ‘Computational Drug Design by QSAR’ organized by IISc, Bangalore from September 16-17, 2013 and presented a paper on ‘Insilico modifi cation of some Tetrahydroquinoline analogues as potential non nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors’.

Guest Lecture by Dr. R RaghuDr. R Raghu, Director from Schrodinger, Bangalore, delivered a talk on ‘New Drug Design: QSAR, 3D & 2D Docking’ on August 5, 2013. The lecture focused on modern advanced technology for new lead molecule synthesis using advanced software and highlighted the importance of new methods for drug optimization and drug delivery.

Industrial Visit to Toyota PlantTIMS had organized an industrial visit to Toyota Kirloskar Pvt. Limited, Bidadi on July 31, 2013. B.Com V Sem and BBM V Sem students were accompanied by faculties Dr. Chitra Devi and Mr. Anish. The Bidadi centre is a manufacturing unit for Innova, Etios, Fortuna, Camry and Liva. The students were shown the different processing units, their

unique functions, the automation of process as well as the quality monitoring standard.

Visit to PMI Bangalore Chapter 5th Annual ProgrammeTIMS students got to be a part of ‘PMI Premier’ on September 12, 2013. Students were exposed to renowned personalities like Brig. MN Oeveya, Mr. B.G Jayaram Karnal Harsha and Vinod who

have all achieved great heights in project management. For the 39 students and Prof. Mr. Usman from T. John College of Management and Science, it was a great opportunity to acquire more knowledge on the different aspects of successful project management.

Fresher’s PartySenior students and newcomers of TIMS mingled with each other at the fresher’s welcome party held on July 23, 2013. The Chief Guest for the day was Campus Director Wg. Cdr. ( Retd.) P. Sambasivan. The program started with a welcome speech and prayer song followed by various performances by the fresher’s. Various gifts and prizes were given for the winners and

the title for Mr. and Miss. Fresher of 2013 was declared.

Industrial Visit to Larson and Turbo Construction Equipment Ltd.TIMS had organized an industrial visit to Larson and Turbo Construction Equipment Limited, Hebbal on July 6, 2013. B.Com I, III and V Sem and BBM V Sem students were accompanied by faculties Dr. Chitra Devi, Mr. Anish and Mr. Govind. L&T Construction Equipment Ltd. is a wholly owned subsidiary of Larsen and Turbo Ltd. They manufacture construction equipment and hydraulic components. L&T was originally started in 1975 in Bangalore. The students were shown the different processing units, advanced CNC machines, robotic welding facility, hydraulic shop and automated assembly lines to roll out hydraulic excavators.

Participation in International Fest - UTOPIA 2013On September 14, 2013, international students of TJC participated in ‘UTOPIA 2013’, an international fest organized by Symbiosis College, Bangalore. Many international students of TJC participated to represent their own countries. Sri Lankan students of TJC secured fi rst place in the dancing competition and also won fi rst place in ‘TUG O’ WAR’.

Ethnic Day Celebration in TJCTJC celebrated Ethnic Day marked by scintillating cultural performances from all corners of India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Rwanda

and many other countries. The day began with fl ower rangolis which were displayed at various venues all over the campus and was followed by different dance performances. Campus Director Wg. Cdr. (Retd.) P. Sambasivan addressed the students and congratulated them on their positive attitude. The program was marked with regional dance and music items. A colourful fashion show was the concluding programme with students representing their own regions and countries. Principal Dr. Shikha Tiwari congratulated Ms. Shiva Sharma and team for organizing this event at a grand scale.

International White Cane Day 2013Students Welfare and Grievance Cell of TJC participated in the International White Cane Day 2013, conducted by the Indian Association for the Blind, Madurai. The cell sold 1500 fl ags for Rs. 5 each and collected Rs. 7500 and an extra Rs. 70 through voluntary donation making it a total collection of Rs. 7570. TJC will also be given a certifi cate and award for their participation and placed in the category of Silver Zone Blind Empowerment Champion.

Hindi Debate in TJCHindi Debate was conducted on the topic

‘Caste Reservation in India is Justifi ed or Not?’ on August 14, 2013 in the BHM Seminar Hall. The event was organized by the ‘Debate Club’, done under the ‘Literary Club’.

Rahul Simon, the President of the Club, along with other student members of the club and Dr. Panchali Mukherjee, the Staff Coordinator of the club. There were 11 participants for the event who were given three minutes to speak either for the motion or against the motion and one minute for questions from the judges and the public. The honourable judges who judged the participants were Ms. Suraiya Banu Shanawaz from the Department of Languages and Ms. Neha from Department of Computer Applications. In the debate competition, Ms. Aakshi from V Sem BBM won fi rst prize, Mr. Murtaza Khokawala from V Sem BCA came second and Mr. Jayesh Patidar from V Sem BCA came third.

Knowledge Sharing on ‘The workshop on Learning to Teach’

National workshop on ‘Learning to Teach for New College Teachers’ was organized by Christ University from August 26-29, 2013. It was attended by 4 faculty members of TJC - Dr. Nilanjana Basu, Dr. Panchali Mukherjee, Mr. Suresh and Ms. Hemlatha. Student Centric Learning was constantly emphasized throughout the program. All methodologies to enhance the same were discussed. The

learning was shared with peer groups at two sessions held on September 5 and September 13, 2013 during which each of the participants gave an overview on each day’s learning. A more elaborate session will be conducted for faculty members in subsequent batches.

Compassion Day by TJC

NSS wing of TJC under the guidance of faculty Mr. Vinod Kumar celebrated Compassion Day on July 3, 2013. Principal Dr. Shikha Tiwari, Vice Principal Dr. Nilanjana Basu, faculty members, non-teaching staff and students attended the program. World Compassion Day (WCD) is an initiative

taken up by Times of India to extend help and support towards the cause of compassion day. The housekeeping staff of the college who work tediously to keep the college clean were honoured with souvenirs. They were also entertained with games such as musical chair. The wards of housekeeping staff were also invited for the ‘Food Fest’ organized

TJC Fund Raiser One week of fun fi lled events were organized by Students Welfare and

Grievance Cell at TJC campus from July 1 -5, 2013. The events were organized with the aim to raise funds for the devastating tragedy that unfolded at Uttarakhand in June 2013. The events presented an opportunity for students to interact with each other, organize and coordinate the events. These events were an eye opener for the new batch

of students who joined TJC this academic year and introduced them to the vibrant and collaborative environment in TJC.

Each day was a new day fi lled with unique events. Day 1 saw movie screenings, day 2 saw students putting up stalls inside the campus which included games, horror room, song dedications, selling handmade candles, making tattoos, mehandi, makeovers and snacks. Day 3 and day 4 were food related events. While the students made and sold different varieties of food items on the third day, faculty of TJC did the same on day 4. Day 5 had two events, socials and tambola, two events which presented the students a chance to unwind in a fun way after a hectic week and the students making full use of the opportunity, had a complete blast.

Department of managementA Guest Lecture on Personality Development, Corporate Awareness & Etiquettes Department of Management Studies of TJC organized a guest lecture on July 17, 2013 on ‘Personality Development, Corporate Awareness & Etiquette’. The speaker was Mr. Deepak Justin, Chief Executive Offi cer of Deejays Inner Circle, training and consulting company in Bangalore. He is a member of the Indian Society for Training & Development (ISTD). Mr. Deepak Justin took the students on a virtual visit of the various business etiquettes to be followed in corporate world. The session covered aspects on grooming, especially on dressing. He enlightened the students by listing the various formal dresses for different occasions like business meetings, business parties etc. Students of I and III Sem BBM and faculty members attended the lecture.

FDP on Emerging Trends in Management Education Department of Management Studies of TJC organized a one day Faculty Development Program on Emerging Trends in Management Education on August 23,

2013. Dr. Thomas P John, Chairman of TJGI greeted and conveyed his best wishes for the program and it was inaugurated by Wg. Cdr.(Retd) P. Sambasivan, Campus Director of TJGI. Dr. Sambasivan emphasized on the need for improving individual quality in teaching that would pave the way for the augmentation of real management education. Dr. Shikha Tiwari, Principal of TJC presided over the programme. She reiterated the need for conducting such programs that would herald the signifi cance of individual responsibility of the faculty in enhancing such traits and delivering those to the student community who would mould themselves according to the industry requirements. Dr. D. Loganathan, Director of Management Studies gave the inaugural address and welcomed key speakers of the program. The event saw participants from 20 colleges across Bangalore and 2 colleges from other states. The program had eminent speakers such as Dr. V Rajeshkumar, professor and consultant, Bangalore, Mrs. Nithya Rajasekhar, a versatile HR Manager of Accenture Bangalore and Prof. J Balaji of SDM institute of Management Development, Mysore. Dr. Nilanjana Basu, Vice Principal of TJC distributed participant certifi cates at the valedictory function. Mrs. Chandrakala, Asst. Prof of MBA department and other faculty members of Management Studies coordinated to make this event a grand success.

Guest Lecture on ‘Case-Based Methodology’Department of Management Studies of TJC organized a guest lecture on July 19, 2013 on ‘Case-Based Methodology’ for V & III Sem BBM. The resource person was a senior

professor Mr. Lakshmi Narasimha, ME-IIT, PGDBA-IIM, having 30 years of Industrial and 14 years of academic experience, enriched the session and created an opportunity for students and faculty members to learn dealing with case-analysis. The session was coordinated by Mr. Arun Kumar R, faculty in Department of Management Studies.

Industrial Visit to Pearl Polymers Ltd. by TJC V Sem students of BBM, TJC, undertook an industrial visit to Pearl Polymers on July 31, 2013. The visit provided an outlook to students about the various operational and managerial aspects of plastic bottle production and marketing.

Industrial Visit to Bangalore Milk Dairy by TJC An industrial visit was arranged to Bangalore Milk Dairy on July 30, 2013 for the students of BBM III Sem from Dept of Management Studies. The students were accompanied by the Director, Dr. Loganathan and Ms. Jyothi B, Lecturer of TJC. Mr. Ranganna from Bangalore Milk Dairy took the students

around the unit, and explained the processes followed from the stage the milk is received, till it is processed, packed and dispatched.

Session by Mr. Anirudh AggarwalMr. Anirudh Aggarwal, an advocate by profession and an achiever in his own right addressed the management students of TJC on September 21, 2013. The session re-kindled the reasoning of every action especially ‘Why MBA’ and urged the students to aim high. He spoke about

social entrepreneurship and Corporate Social Responsibility.

Apret Club organized ‘Joy of Cooking’Apret Club, a student initiative, organized ‘Joy of Cooking’ on September 28, 2013. The participants were from different departments of TJC and teamed up in pairs. They presented a three course menu and based on their output, 3 teams were adjudged winners. The primary aim of this activity was ‘knowledge sharing’ as all participants’ showcased traditional food from their homeland.

Swiss Education Group’s Visit to TJC Mr. Hervé Findeisen, Regional Manager of Asia for Swiss Education Group, visited BHM department of TJC on September 7 to brief students about the possibility of higher education in Switzerland. The Swiss Education Group is a network of Switzerland’s leading hospitality management schools. It represents Ceaser Ritz College, Culinary Arts Academy, Hotel Institute Montreux,

IHTTI and Swiss Hotel Management School.

Mr. Findeisen encouraged students to broaden their current educational qualifications with an international degree. He emphasized on the need for budding hoteliers to be well-rounded not only in terms of their knowledge but also preparing themselves for placement in the global workplace.

Technologies as a Manager of Global Marketing. She addressed the students on corporate culture, punctuality and knowledge regarding their concerned fields.

Seminar on Sustainable Deve-lopment by TJC To inculcate the theme and spirit of sustainable development among management students, Department of BBM, TJC organized a one

day seminar on Nature Education and Green Business on September 21, 2013. The resource person for the event was Mr. Venkat Naidu, Chairman of Nature Walk and a specialist in the area of Nature Education and Forestry. Undergraduate management students and faculty members attended the program. A noticeable achievement was the selection of an article written by Ms. Aakshi of BBM V Sem on the theme of Green Living, being selected for publication in a reputed magazine in the field of environment protection.

Housekeepers National Convention Meet by TJC BHM VII Sem students attended the Indian Housekeepers 4th National Convention meet which was conducted by the Southern Housekeepers Club from August 24-25, 2013 at Ramee Guest House Line, Bangalore. Students got a chance to meet all housekeepers under one roof and a chance to interact with Indian authors - Ms. Smitha Raghubalan and Ms. Sunitha Srinivasan.

BHM Workshop on Bartending On July 19, 2013, BHM department of TJC conducted ‘The Art of Bartending’ workshop. It was conducted by Mr. Rohan Carvalho on bartending, preparing cocktails and flaring. Mr. Rohan has conducted several bartending training programs for hotels and bars across the world. The Food and Beverage Service team had

taken the initiative for this event and were led by Mr. Sathish Kumar R, faculty of BHM department.

Mrs. Nagarathna Dewakar visited Anugraha Social Service Centre on August 3, 2013. The trip also included BHM students along with their lecturer Mr. Satish Khalko.

The children’s home shelters 30 young boys who are nurtured and protected under Brother Fathima Reddy. The students extended warmth and support to the organisation engaging in playing games and talking to the children. Mr. Ravi, offi ce staff of TJC also took his time spreading smiles on the tiny tots.

‘Manokendra’ - Psychology Club Celebrates Psychology DaySeptember 20, 2013 was formally celebrated as the ‘Day of Psychology’ by the students of B.A department (I, III and V Sem) under the

Languages, TJC who is doing her M.Sc. in Psychology from Jain University conducted a guest lecture for I, III and V Sem BA students in Optional English on Nigerian writer Chinua Achebe’s Things Fall Apart on August 1, 2013. The guest lecture was organized by Dr. Panchali Mukherjee. It provided the students with an insight into the clash between traditional culture of Igbo society and colonialism.

A Film Director amidst usDepartment of Languages, TJC offers its hearty congratulations to Mr. Niju Abraham for his directorial debut in fi lm making. Mr. Niju Abraham from V Sem BA (JEP) has directed a documentary fi lm titled ‘Green’ in Malayalam describing the topography and the scenic beauty of Kerala.

A movie screening session was organized for I, III and V Sem BA (JEP) students by Dr. Panchali Mukherjee on July 27, 2013 in which the fi lm was screened. The duration of the fi lm was 45 minutes. The fi lm was introduced to the students by Mr. Niju Abraham and at the end of the session he talked to the students about his directorial debut.

B.A (JEP) Students Visit Recording StudioB.A (JEP) students of TJC visited G3 AV Studio along with faculty Ms. Pooja Basnett on September 24, 2013. In this industrial visit, Mr. Alex (Sound Engineer) with 27 years of experience in the fi eld of sound recording, editing and a renowned face in Kannada fi lm industry for music explained to the students

in depth about the technicalities in sound, music, audio and video in terms of recording, editing and dubbing.

The students were divided into three teams and each team got individual attention from Mr. Alex as they were taken through all the instruments constituting both hardware and software that are needed in the process of recording and editing. Some students even tried their hand at recording songs. The students could identify and learn more about each of the equipment used in recording and see how each step works.

Guest Lecture by a JournalistA guest lecture was organised for the students of BA (JEP), TJC on July 29, 2013. The speaker was Ridalin Laloo, an alumna of the college and presently a Reporter/Journalist for Eastern Chronicle.

Eastern Chronicle, Manipur Chronicle and The Mizoram Post are English dailies published under the aegis of the Sankha Group. Eastern Chronicle, started in 2009 is a national daily and is being published simultaneously from Silchar, Guwahati, Shillong, Dibrugarh and New Delhi. In fact, Eastern Chronicle is the fi rst English daily from Eastern India which is being published from the national capital.

She spoke about her experiences in the fi eld of journalism, the hurdles she faced and how she overcame the obstacles and moved forward. She also spoke about the qualities

that a good journalist should possess and how to acquire those qualities. The guest lecture was organized by Ms. Pooja Basnett from the Dept. of Languages.

BA Fresher’s PartyBA students of TJC celebrated their Fresher’s Day on July 22, 2013. Second year students organized a small function for the newcomers along with a warm welcome to them into the course. Few games and funny interactive sessions were conducted. The juniors introduced themselves to the teachers and the seniors making it a humorous and entertaining programme.

MEDIA MEET at Christ UniversityBA (JEP) students along with faculty Ms. Pooja Basnett, participated in ‘MEDIA MEET’, a National Media Seminar organized by the Department of Media Studies, Christ University from August 16-17, 2013. The core theme for the seminar was Broadcast Media. The event combined both academic and non academic skills through competitions and paper presentations. The highlight of the event was a keynote address by Mr. Arnab Goswami (Editor-in-Chief, Times Now) on importance and impact of television news channel. The students had anticipated since days to hear what Mr. Goswami had to say and they sure were not disappointed and were pleased to hear about hardcore journalism. The students also participated in workshops of Animation, Radio Broadcasting, Studio Lighting, TV News Reporting and Studio Techniques.

KGTTI is an institute established by the Government of Karnataka having technical collaboration with German International Services. LectureDepartment of MCA organized a guest lecture by Mr. G S Ravindra, Scientist and Head, HRD, ADE, DRDO at TJIT on ‘Job Opportunities in DRDO for Young Engineers from Various Disciplines’ on August 10, 2013. Mr. Ravindra dwelt on three types of cadres in which the job opportunities

are available in DRDO. Scientifi c cadre for young engineering graduates from all disciplines and post graduate in science. Graduates in science disciplines and diploma holders can seek jobs under Technical cadre. Other graduates and pre-university holders can fi nd jobs in Administrative cadres of DRDO. In addition

The camp started with the inaugural function graced by Dr. Raju Chandrashekhar from Red Cross, Mr. S.M. Gupta,

President of Rotary Club, Bangalore, Ms. Nishu Johri, Secretary of Rotary Club, Mr. K. Kunja from Rotary Club and Ms. Kalpana Mallya from Asha Jeevan Home for the Aged. The camp saw tremendous response from the students and staff. Student volunteers and leaders from the Dept. of CSE, TJIT assisted in the setting up and smooth conduction of the event.

Guest Lecture on Innovation & LeadershipMr. Mohan and Ms. Ashwini from Career Kraft Foundation, Bangalore, addressed V and VII Sem CSE students on August 22, 2013. The session

focused mainly on Innovative Learning and shaping up students careers as well as bridging the gap between theoretical education and practical education. The session also included activities on hacking, creative thinking, brain-storming session and team work. More than 100 students took participation in the session.

This tie up aims at identifying the needs of the industry and training the student’s on-campus for the same. The Chief Guest for the event was Dr. H. Maheshappa, Vice Chancellor of VTU. Mr. S. Karaiadiselvan, Managing Director, CADD Centre, gave an insight into the various opportunities provided by this tie-up in terms of exchange of knowledge and resources.

MG HandicraftsMr. Ramesh from MG Handicrafts visited the department and demonstrated various simple handicraft items. Students were enthralled to see how easily he was able to create beautiful items in a matter of minutes.

Forum Activities - FORCEThe following events were conducted under FORCE (FORum of Computer Engineers) at TJIT:

• FORCE conducted the event ‘Speak a

CSE. As the students gear up towards selecting their final year projects, the workshop intended to hone their Java programming skills and introduce them to web technologies. The workshop was organized in association with AKLC, Bangalore. The instructors were Mr. Ashok Kumar and Mr. Chandrakant from AKLC. The introductory session demonstrated on how to configure eclipse and run Java programs in Eclipse. This was followed by a session on Web Development. The two day workshop concluded with a session on aerver side application development using Apache Tomcat.

Workshop on Research Metho-dologies and LatexProf. Srinivasa H P, Associate Professor, Dept. of CSE attended a three day workshop from July 27-29, 2013 on ‘Research Methodologies and Latex’ organized by VTU e-Learning Centre, Mysore at Ghousia College of Engineering, Ramanagara. The workshop intended to help research students who have had no previous experience doing empirical research but who are already working towards formulating a research topic. The eminent speaker explained about identification of research gaps and selection of a problem, research methods in basic sciences and engineering & technology, orientation towards citation, impact factors, writing research proposals, research papers/reports funding agencies and their funding mechanisms along with VTU latex template were discussed in the workshop.

Industrial Visit to GVK EMRIOn September 27, 2013, an industrial visit to GVK Emergency Management Research Institute was arranged for V and VII Sem students of CSE. Information was provided on 108 Ambulance service, its networking throughout

4. An industrial visit was arranged to Micromatic Machine Tools Limited on August 24, 2013. Micromatic Machine Tools Limited is a CNC machine manufacturing plant. The students got to know about CNC machines operation and manufacturing.

Workshop on Graphics DesigningOn September 14, 2013, a workshop on Graphics Designing was organized for the pre-final year students of CSE. The workshop intended to hone their designing skills using Adobe Photoshop. The workshop was organized in association with EDUWOX, Creative works Business Solutions Pvt. Ltd. Bangalore. There were two instructors from EDUWOX. The session started with introduction to basics of graphics designing, exposure to Adobe Photoshop tools and hands-on experience. The one day workshop concluded with a demonstration in designing front end web pages.

NIT Kozhikode National Award at 16th ISTE Students National Annual Convocation, 2013 On September 27, 2013, 16th ISTE Students National Annual Convocation was held at Periyar Maniammai University, Tanjavur, Tamil Nadu. Shebin Binoy, Shiraz Ahmed, Tony George & Vivek Joseph from CSE attended the convocation and received the NIT Kozhikode National Award for Best B.TECH Project in Computer & Communication Engineering for the project entitled ‘HASBE: Hierarchical Attribute Based Solution for Scalable and Flexible Access Control in Cloud Computing’.

AchievementMs. Shelda Mohan, Dept. of CSE, TJIT and Mr. Yogesh, Dept of ISE, Acharya Institute of Technology have cleared the entrance examination for PhD conducted in July 2013 and have attended the interview at Belgaum. They will be registering for PhD under the research centre of Dept of CSE, TJIT.

Internship at IOCMr.Sambit Dutta of VII Sem CSE did his internship at India Oil Corporation from August 6-September 7, 2013 and was able to gain hands-on experience on working with state of the art technologies used at Indian Oil Corporation, Kolkata.

Technical Skill Assessment and Skill Development SessionOn September 19, Dr. T R Mahesh, HOD of CSE along with his team conducted a technical written test with discussion for VII Sem students of CSE. This was organized to provide awareness and train the students for successful placement.

Placement Meet at WiproMs. Meenakshi and Ms. Neelu Jain of VII Sem CSE along with Mr. Rajesh Naik, Marketing Head, TJGI attended the placement offi cer’s meet at Wipro on August 22, 2013. The session began with a talk about WASE and WISTA by Ms. Neetu Joy. This was followed by a session on ‘Wipro Today’ by Mr. Rajeev Singh, Global Campus Head. The fi nal session was on ‘Campus Arena Functionalities and Matrices’ by Ajesh Venugopalan, Marketing Manager, Wipro.

Faculty Deputed for Research WorkMs. Vanadana Jha, Assisstant Professor, Dept. of CSE, TJIT and Ms. Rashmi S, Assisstant Professor, Dept. of CSE have been deputed for pursuing PhD. Ms. Vanadana Jha has registered as a research scholar at Bangalore University and her area of research is data mining with a special focus on web mining. Ms. Rashmi S is pursuing a doctoral degree in computer networks at Kuvempu University.

National Conference on Communication and Image Processing (NCCIP-13)NCCIP-13 was held on August 7, 2013 at TJIT and organized by Electronics and Communication department. The program was presided over by Dr. Thomas P John, Chairman, TJGI. The Chief Guest for the function was Dr. Phaneendra Yalavarthy, MIG-SERC, IISc Bangalore. He talked on current Image Processing technology. The Key Note speaker of the day was Dr. M.H Kori, Retd. Director of Lucent – Alcatel Technology, Bangalore. He spoke on Advancements in Wireless Communication. 72 technical papers were presented in four different sessions in Electronics and Communication/Telecommunication Engineering departments. Sessions were attended by paper presenters, delegates, students and staff of various colleges in and around Bangalore.

Industrial VisitOn July 20, 2013, VII Sem Telecom students of TJIT went on an industrial visit to TATA Advanced Materials Ltd. On the visit, students got an overall idea on how armour products were manufactured such as bullet-proof jackets, helmets and armoured panels for battle tanks, vehicles and special applications. They could also experience how composite parts for aerospace, telecom and medical electronic industries were manufactured. It is the largest manufacturer of personnel armour products in India and the only Indian manufacturer and exporter of composite parts for spacecraft and aircraft. The visit was organized by faculties Mrs. Kalpana. P. S and Mr. Sanjay Bhagat.

JOHN COLLEGE OF NURSINGWorld Breastfeeding Week 2013 - Breast-feeding Support: Close to Mothers This year’s World Breastfeeding Week (WBW) theme, ‘Breastfeeding Support: Close to Mothers’, highlights breast-feeding peer counselling. On August 7, 2013, II year M. Sc Nursing (OBG) students Mrs. Feba Jacob and Mrs. Marriamma M Raju conducted a breastfeeding camp in Prema Hospital under the guidance and support of Mrs. G T Sartaj Fatima (HOD of Obsterics & Gynaecology) and Mrs. Silverstar Sugritha. The camp was highly benefi cial for mothers to-be and especially for lactating mothers. Students gave health education on breastfeeding and also suggested selected diets for enhancing breast milk production.

National Level WorkshopNational level workshop was conducted by TJCN from July 5-6, 2013 on the theme ‘Revitalizing Nursing Trends: Nurses the Forefront of an Evolutionary Wave’. The theme was selected because a nurse confronts challenges with regards to quality improvement in the face of shortcomings of traditional nursing education in preparing nurses for their evolving role in today’s contemporary settings.

200 participants from other colleges and hospitals and 145 participants from TJCN registered for the workshop. The chief guest for the program was Dr. Father Mathew Manyampra. The fi rst session was on overhauling nursing education which was conducted by Prof. Mary Ann Washington. The core content was on trends in nursing and different teaching learning methods.

The second session on rebirth and renewal through research was taken by Dr. Raja. He emphasized on evidenced based nursing. The third session was on quality nursing practice on signifi cance of soft skills by Dr. Jothi Clara.

Second day was on medical law and ethics conducted by Dr. S B N Prakash, former District Judge. It was followed by a session on competitive scientifi c paper presentation that witnessed 6 participants from different colleges and the fi nal session was on trends in nursing informatics by Dr. Vijay Singh.

Guest Lecture on Production & Operations Management in Indian IndustryDepartment of MBA (VTU) conducted a guest lecture on August 31, 2013 on the topic entitled ‘Production & Operations Management in Indian Industry’. The resource person was Dr. Bhaskar, Professor of HKBK College of Engineering who talked about Production & Operations Management in a modern scenario. All MBA students attended the programme along with the faculty members.

He emphasized on the importance and role of sensors in space applications and the automobile industry.

Bangalore University Chess Tour-nament 2013-145 students from TJC participated in Bangalore University Inter Collegiate Chess Tournament held at Vijay College, Bangalore from September 16-18, 2013. Out of 240 students

competing in the event, TJC student Naveen Kumar N (MBA III Sem) secured 18th position. Hearty congratulations to Naveen Kumar N.
