Inter-M® Pulse – Introduction

02

Past Mooring Traditions - connected by shackles, kenters, and “H-Link” long term connector

“H-Links”

- designed to connect chains/ropes of different sizes together

- installed in some of the harshest waters in the world for over 25 years

- As a stand alone connector, the H-Link is relatively rudimentary and it was logical that it could be enhanced in its design

- Far beyond the scope of “just” a chain connector

Inter-M® Pulse – Introduction• Using the knowledge and experience of “H-Link”

design and manufacture, the “H-Link” developed into a working component that could be used offshore to allow twist to be taken out of chain/wire systems.

• The Inter-M® Swivel was developed and has been used offshore in extreme environments as a “longer term” connector with all of the DESIGN/INTEGRITY requirements built in.

• Still in its basic form of an H-Link chain to chain connector, the Inter-M® swivel added functionality to its offshore requirements.

• Throughout the trials and offshore use of the swivel, the customer feedback and requests for an intelligent line monitoring connector lead to development of the Inter-M® PULSE.

Inter-M® Pulse Sea TrialsTo ensure test the technology of the Inter-M® Pulse , a 76mm (800T MBL) unitwas installed on the Ocean Nomad Semisubmersible in the North Sea during thewinter of 2011/12 for a six month drilling campaign.

Mooring System- Chain and fibre makeup

- Installed at the fibre/shackle connection

Trial Location- Everest 22/10a

- Operator was BG

Conditions & Results- Sea-states of around 12m

- Inter-M® Pulse sent accurate line tensions and inclination readings to the control room

Inter-M® Pulse Sea TrialsThe Inter-M® Pulse was installed over the stern roller of the Ocean Nomad.

The units are designed for MODU and/or FPSO installation.

After a successful installation, the unit was immediatelyoperational and feeding line tensions and inclination readings to the surface.

The readings have since been verified and documented.
