• SECY-13-0132, Enclosure 3 provided an historical review and evaluation of defense-in-depth (DID)– Was not a thorough historical review and evaluation
• Commission Staff Requirements Memorandum: “Enshrine Enclosure 3, “Defense-in-Depth Observations and Detailed History,” as an agency knowledge management tool and republish in other formats to make it more widely available”
• NUREG being developed– More complete historical review and evaluation of DID for
reactors, materials, waste, security, international and other agencies
• Holding workshop to gain perspectives from other agencies

Purpose of Workshop
• There will be workshop proceedings developed• Each participant will have the opportunity to
review and comment/approve the proceedings• Proceedings will be attached to the NUREG report
being developed which will be a public document• Workshop is being recorded
– there will not be a transcript – the recording is only to assist in assuring the
information provided in the proceeding will be correctly represented

Agenda (Day 2)
• September 11, 2015: Draft proceedings complete and NRC sends to participants for review and comment
• September 25, 2015: Participants send in comments to NCR
• October 2, 2015: NRC addresses participants’ comments and sends out final proceedings to participants for their information
• October 9, 2015: Participants provide any outstanding concerns on proceedings
• December 30, 2015: Final draft of NUREG complete, ready for publication (proceedings in NUREG as an appendix)
