How BMTC is benefiting from ITS • Significant improvements in operations and service delivery – The

instances of early arrivals and late departures recorded an overall decrease of 64% and 22% respectively in a 6 month period post launch of ITS project (between August 2016 to January 2017).

Monitoring operations At Depot and at Command Control Centre (CCC)


• Depot-wise monitoring of deviations on a day to day basis is enabled including:

Route deviations.

Bus stop skipping.

Late Departures from Depots.

Early Arrivals to Depots.

Stopping of vehicles at unauthorized locations.

Over-speeding vehicles.

Bus Bunching

• Real time tracking of vehicle break-downs is enabled which can in turn be communicated with other key stake holders such as Traffic department for managing the traffic.

Case Study – Route Deviation


Background: Crew handling Vehicle No. KA01F8894 belonging to Depot-06 of East Division had deviated the vehicle from its scheduled route and trip on 19th October 2016 at 8 PM in the night. The scheduled trip was to be from Hoskote to Domlur, whereas the vehicle was deviated to undertake a trip from Hoskote to Benson town and the revenue generated from the unauthorized trip undertaken was declared as the revenue generated for the scheduled trip. Based on the complaints received from commuters on 22nd October 2016, an investigation was launched by the concerned authorities to verify the deviation.

Review of the deviation: The concerned authorities tracked the deviation through the vehicle tracking feature of ITS for the duration 7.30 PM to 9.30 PM on 19th October 2016. The Vehicle Tracking Unit installed in the vehicles sends the vehicle position details to the central server once every 10 seconds, which enables tracking of vehicles in real time as well as for any such past instances. The details from the vehicle tracking feature of ITS clearly showed the deviation from the scheduled route.

Conclusion: The inputs received from ITS were used as evidence to initiate disciplinary action against the erring crew.
