What is an Ipad ?
The iPad is a tablet computer developed by Apple.
It is smaller than a typical laptop, but significantly larger than the average
smartphone.
The iPad does not include a keyboard or a trackpad, but instead has a touchscreen
interface, which is used to control the device
It offers an ‘app’ store with thousands of free and paid apps with functions
ranging from games and entertainment to business and education.
iPad has a number of functions, for example:
- It can shoot video,
- Take photos
- Play music
- perform internet functions, such as web browsing, social networking,
etc.
Why have we opted for Ipad?
We opted for using iPad in classroom teaching because of
many reasons:
iPad is a lightweight device that can be carried in a small satchel.
iPad is considered the best way to experience the web, photos, videos, etc.
Hours of battery life. iPad can go 10 hours of moderate use without needing to be
charged.
iPad is very simple, easy and flexible in terms of usage.
iPad provides an eReader app with an excellent interface that flips pages like a real book.
Psychologically speaking, nowadays students are digitally-oriented. So, using ipad in the
classroom stitmuates students’ motivation and improves their achievement.
The iPad include Wi-Fi capability, which can be used for surfing the Web, checking
email, and downloading apps directly to the device.
The iPad's 9.7 in screen size also makes it ideal as an e-reader.
The iBooks app allows you to download electronic versions of books from the iBookstore
and read them on your iPad.
Since the iPad has a full color screen, it supports novels as well as art books and illustrated
children's stories.
Books can be read one page at a time in portrait mode or with pages side by side in
landscape mode.
The iPad includes both rear-facing and front-facing cameras. These cameras can be used for recording video sor conferencing with other iPad, iPhone, or Mac users .
We can run presentations from iPad.

How can we use ipad for teaching in
the classroom ?
Using Ipad for Reading Activity
Ipad is said to be one of the most alternatives to the books. As the case so, teachers can
make the reading activity so enjoyable with using ipad.
As most today students are technologically-oriented, teachers instand of using hard copy
books for reading activity, they can use ibooks to make sudents more engaged and enjoy
reading activity.
Using ipad for Listening activity
To boost listening skill for students and make them enjoy listening, via using ipad
teachers can make this possible; teachers can download recordings of the books
from itunes and make the students read and listen in the same time.
The students’ vocabulary can be expanded through repeated exposure to new words and by thinking about word meanings. Teacher may use a variety of apps to broaden and accelerate the learning process of vocabulary for students.
Using ipad for teaching vocabulary
Many apps focus on specific word meaning skills by highlighting word opposites, synonyms, and homophones. Many of the games can be played together or side-by-side.
