Negative Numbers Are Used to Show Debt

Let’s say your parents bought a car buthad to get a loan from the bank for $5,000.When counting all their money they add in -$5.000 to show they still owe the bank.

REGLAS

Hay reglas cuando se tiene que sumar numeros con signos igual o signos diferente.

(+) O (-) = ?

Page 11: Integers1a

Integer Addition Rules• Rule #1 – If the signs are the same,

add the numbers and keep the same sign.

9 + 5 = 14-9 + -5 = -14

• Si los signos son igual, se suman los numeros y se queda el mismo signo.

Page 12: Integers1a

Solve the Problems• -3 + -5 =• 4 + 7 =• (+3) + (+4) =• -6 + -7 = • 5 + 9 =• -9 + -9 =

Integer Addition Rules

If the signs are not the same, subtract the numbers, and keep sign of larger number.

-9 + 5 =

Answer = - 4

• Si los signos NO son igual, se restan los numeros y se usa el signo del numero mas grande
