Quito, Ecuador Native Instrument Academy We are committed to preserving and passing on classical music and native instruments to people from multiple cultures by educating and bringing our communities together. How does classical music and native instruments fit together? Hearing Mozart in a native instrument is important, as it is a native expression and ‘takes’ on the classics. In our travels, we have asked musicians to play classical music and they’ve played traditional music from their countries. Discovery It’s all about cultural perspectives. We have found that when multiple cultures engage in classical music of the western world, their willingness to share each other’s historic depth yields to a better understanding. The blending of these cultures helps us understand the position that music plays in our lives as well as its role in the mainstream culture. Our mission is to improve the quality of life for opportunity youth by providing access to quality classical music education through the use of native instruments that represent diverse cultural backgrounds. We strive to increase learning proficiency through educational and learning programs that leverage the discipline of classical music, and addressing our community audiences through public performances, community outreach events, and cultural advocacy. Education is the push, learning is the pull The INTAKE learning experience is a skill-oriented process that yields results in self-identity, personal discipline, academic improvement, improved English language skills, multicultural perspectives, community citizenship and ambassadorship. Family participation is an outcome and opportunity that music provides. It pulls parents as witness to the learning process and they become engaged in supporting the native instrument learning process. This in turn enriches the student’s desire to be more successful and for parents to better understand the system, and the educational and integrative process that we are going through. We envision a world where classical music is relevant to people of all cultural backgrounds and represents the diverse communities it serves. We couldn’t be happier that you have joined our family. In 2011, the INTAKE Native Instrument Academy was just a dream, and thanks to supporters like you, today we are here, making it a reality. When I look at what we have accomplished, I see a horizon that is broad and bountiful for what INTAKE can achieve. With our new initiative to expand our core educational program, our international and local efforts to better reflect our diverse demographics, INTAKE is here to make a significant contribution to our community. All of this is possible thanks to YOU! The transformative stories of people finding refuge in classical music are evidence of the long-lasting impact that we can achieve, in preserving our cultural backgrounds and maintaining our native ‘voices’ alive. Working different frameworks to fit within our mission is an exciting challenge, when most of our students are part of the school’s English Language Learners program and are waiting for the opportunity to acquire a musical skill, get a quality education, prepare for college, and become better citizens. We are very grateful for the direct support from our corporate, individual, artistic, educational, family and cultural partners who make our programs possible. Thanks again for joining us in educating our youth and the communities in which we live and work on. I am very much looking forward to speaking with you about the profound impact that your support can and will have in the people we serve and care for!
