Institutions and audiences � Question 2 is the most factual part of the

work you complete in media studies. � You will need to know how particular

media industries operate and how audiences are formed.

Why is some music downloading legal and some illegal? � Music purchased on line from a secure

site is generally legal to download, music which is downloaded free and has not been certified through a copyright agreement is often illegal as the artist, record label etc receive no royalties from the music being downloaded.

What is OFCOM? � Ofcom (office of communication) has

wide-ranging powers across the television, radio, telecoms and postal sectors. It has a statutory duty to represent the interests of citizens and consumers by promoting competition and protecting the public from what might be considered harmful or offensive material.

What is MP4? � The MP4 is a container format, allowing a

combination of audio, video, subtitles and still images to be held in the one single file. It also allows for advanced content such as 3D graphics, menus and user interactivity.

more than one cinema at the same time? �  5) what is the total number of films in relation

to the total number of screenings? �  How much is the cost of one ticket? �  What conclusions can you draw about film

distribution in the UK?
