ACADEMY OF HOSPITAL ADMINISTRATION

In 1966 Master of Hospital Administration [MHA] , Post Graduate course in Hospital Management was started at All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi [AIIMS], to meet the needs of institutionally trained health care management experts in the country. Subsequently it was realized that a national level organization/association of such trained professionals was needed for regular exchange and up gradation of knowledge and skills in hospital and health care delivery system, and also for running training courses for capacity building. It was also envisaged that the Association will also act as consulting organization for the state and central government , for various policy matters related to hospital and healthcare delivery system management in the country.

This conceptualized into the formation of the as an all “Academy of Hospital Administration [AHA]”India organization with its headquarters located in Delhi, to avail of maximum benet from the locally available infrastructure of hospitals and health care system. The Academy of Hospital Administration was nally established on The present 16th Feb. 1987 under the Society Registration Act 1860.strength of members from all over India and abroad is around 1400.

WHY THIS PROGRAMME

Health care is the largest industry in the world and second largest in India, rapidly attracting new entrants and generating competition. Indian Healthcare industry comprises of hospitals, pharmaceutical industry and allied sectors like health tourism and was projected to grow by 23% per annum to touch US$ 77 billion by the end of year 2012 and according to current estimated size it is of US$ 35 billion.

In today’s world Indian pharmaceutical industry ranks 4th in terms of volume and 13th in terms of value. The industry is estimated to be worth $ 4.5 billion which is growing at 8-9 to 14% annually. There are 250 large Units and about 8000 Small scale Units and 20,000 registered Units all over India. The output per annum is estimated to be Rs 260 million. Considering the existing hospitals and the future growth say up to 2016, we need about 35000 trained managers, at middle level [15000] and junior level [20000]. Our aim is to prepare students as good leaders with managerial skills, having an eye for achieving quality standards in all spheres of healthcare management.
