Possible collaboration areas

• Hydrology and Water Management Branch proposal – presented separately

• Interest towards current NTNU projects: AWAST, SENSPOL & BEEP

• Applications for NFM-funded collaboration with Norwegian partners (Nov. '05): nationwide air quality modeling and forecasting system (4 Polish institutes + Met.no);

Faculty of Environmental EngineeringExperience: Comprehensive knowledge of problems, solutions and

technologies within a domain of water protection and water management

Recent international projects:

1. EUROLAKES (2001-2004) – FP5 Project of EU on large and deep European lakes with 15 European partners

2. ENMOS (2000-2004) – EUREKA! Project on developing continuous monitoring of water quality in surface waters with two Norwegian partners NIVA (Oslo) and OCEANOR (Trondheim)

Project proposal • Departure point: The ENMOS system

• Goal of the Project:

Developing an Early Warning System for water intakes located in water reservoirs

Page 13: Institute of Environmental Engineering Systems

Early Warning Systems for Water Reservoirs

Development aspects of the Project:

Innovative solutions required in

• robust sensors (bacteria, phytoplankton, heavy metals, hydrocarbons)

• robust hydraulics of water sampling (flooding and ice conditions, snails etc.)

• large data storage and cheap telemetry

• reliable alarm setting and controlling of water intake gates

Research aspects of the Project

• impact of water pollution on phytoplankton

• modelling of key processes in water reservoirs

• modelling of pollution transport in water reservoirs
