1 - IntroductionThe fiber optic amplifiers of the FXS2 series have a compact enclosure that allows them to be installed in difficult installation locations of conventional photoelectric sensors. They are easily installed in 35 mm DIN rail and several units can be installed side by side, without mutual interference. The configuration through only two buttons makes it easy to use the amplifiers, which still feature high brightness LEDs that assist in configuration and are visible over large distances, making it easy to see the operation when in RUN mode.
1.1 - Safety Information• These amplifiers are only intended to detect object (s). Do not use them for the purpose of human protection.
• These amplifiers should not be used in hazardous locations and / or potentially explosive atmospheres.
• The FXS2 line amplifiers are designed to be connected to direct current only. Never connect them to AC power as they may explode or ignite.
• The amplifiers must be installed by qualified service personnel. We caution against the risk of damage to both persons and property resulting from improper installation or configuration.

Uses a blue LED. The application for this model of amplifier depends on the color variation of the mark or object to be detected and the background. See table 9 on page 16.
2.3 - Types of Fiber¹The amplifier can operate with both glass and plastic fiber optic cables, and there are three principles of operation:
• Diffuse System• Reflective System• Barrier System
2.3.1 - Diffuse SystemIn this system, the object to be detected itself reflects the beam of light emitted, causing it to reach the receiver, and the state of the output depends on the mode in which it is configured.
¹ Refer to item 5.1 on page 8 for output behavior when choosing to use fuzzy, reflective or barrier systems.
Note
2.3.3 - Barrier SystemIn the barrier system, the object to be detected interrupts the beam of light reaching the receiver, and the state of the output depends on the mode in which it is configured.
Picture 5 - Diffuse system
Picture 7 - Barrier system
2.3.3 - Reflective SystemIn the reflective system, the object to be detected interrupts the beam of light reaching the receiver, reflected by a mirror or prismatic tape, and the state of the output depends on the mode in which it is configured.

3.4 - Installing Multiple Amplifiersf necessary, several amplifiers can be installed side-by-side without interfering with the operation of another ³.
Picture 10 - Installing the optical fiber
Picture 11 - Installing multiple amplifiers
Note² If the fiber is not inserted until the end, there may be loss of light intensity emitted by the amplifier.
³ The fibers may be installed side by side provided that one beam of light does not overlap another, which depends on the distance from the target and the fiber used.

4 - Electrical InstallationThe electrical connection of the amplifier can be made through cable or M8 connector, depending on the model used. See the connection mode below for both models.
4.1 - Universal PNP / NPN OutputFor FXS line amplifiers, it does not matter what type of control system card. The connection mode recognition circuit allows the sensors to be connected to both PNP and NPN cards, as it continuously monitors the way the output is connected, tailoring the sensor to the application.
The recognition circuit eliminates the configuration of the output type by switches, jumpers or wires, which facilitates field installation, reducing the risk of connection errors that may damage the amplifier. This feature not only facilitates field installation but also reduces the number of models to be stocked, leading to real cost savings.

5.2 - Teach ModeThe teach mode can be set between 4 options which will be described as follows:
• 1-point Teach• 2-points Teach• Automatic Teach• Manual Teach
5.2.1 - 1-point TeachIn 1-point teach mode, adjustment is only performed with the presence of the object to be detected. It is suitable for applications where only one condition is known, for example a background with stable light and objects of dark color. In this mode, the amplifier uses as an adjustment the amount of light intensity that reaches the receiver when the object is detected. When the light intensity returning to the receiver equals the set value, the output will switch 4.
5.2.3 - Automatic TeachThe automatic teach mode is used for applications where the light incident on the object to be detected is not stable or the object moves too fast, or in cases where the process can not stop for the adjustment to take place. In this mode, the hysteresis and light transmission power are also tuned to the process. When the light intensity returning to the receiver equals the set value, the output will switch 4.
5.2.2 - 2-points TeachIn 2-point teach mode, the setting is performed in the presence and absence of the object to be detected. It is indicated for applications where the light incident on the object to be detected is stable and for objects in slow motion or stopped. In this mode, the amplifier uses as an adjustment the average value of the light intensity that returns to the receiver at the two detection points. When the light intensity returning to the receiver equals the set value, the output will switch 4.
5.2.4 - Manual TeachThe manual teach mode allows you to manually set the light transmitting power of the jog switch for object detection. When the light intensity returning to the receiver equals the set value, the output will switch 4.
4 Values above or below that stored during the setup process will have no effect on the output of the amplifier, ie the output will not switch.

5.3 - Timer ModeThe output of the amplifier is triggered instantly upon detection of the object. If the application requires a timer, you can configure three options:
• ON delay timer• OFF delay timer• Shot
5.3.1 - ON Delay TimerIn cases where the application requires a delay in energizing the output of the amplifier after object detection, a time ranging between 50 ms, 100 ms or 250 ms can be set. See timing indication in figure 17.5.3.2 - OFF Delay TimerIn cases where the application requires a delay in deenergizing the output of the amplifier after object detection, a time ranging between 50 ms, 100 ms or 250 ms can be set. See timing indication in figure 17.5.3.3 - Shot Mode (Timed Pulse)It allows to provide a pulse of determined duration, regardless of whether the object remains in front of the light beam or not. See timing indication in figure 17.5.3.4 - Timed Output BehaviorThe graphs below illustrate the output behavior for each type of timing in the operating modes of the Light ON and Dark ON outputs.

8.3 - Blue Light Source
The tables below illustrate in which situation each light source color can be applied. The green marks indicate where they can be used and the red ones where they can not be used. 7.
7 Other color conditions should be pre-tested to ensure that the amplifier meets the needs of the application.
