1. Please read before installing

1.1 UseDanfoss Online is a tool for remotely controlling and administering Danfoss’ heat pumps for homes, via the Internet. With Danfoss Online, customers can monitor and control their heating unit from any computer connected to the internet. This gives the customer the option of remotely controlling the indoor temperature. It also provides you, as an installer, with the option of improved and more secure support, as it is quick and easy to check the unit’s operating con-dition without having to make a visit.

In addition, the system has an alarm function to forward alarms from the heat pump via SMS and e-mail.

1.2 Check list when ordering Danfoss Online

1.2.1 System requirements

To use Danfoss Online, the customer needs a computer with Windows Internet Explorer, version 5.5, installed and JavaScript activated or, for Apple computers, Safari version 2.0.4.

1.2.2 Mains power supply

For Danfoss Online to work, the mains must supply the modem with the correct voltage. This should not be a problem as the legal standard is 230 V +5/-10%. However, to be on the safe side check the voltage on site. To do this, check to which protection group the heat pump is to be connected. Then measure the voltage between the zero and phase using a voltmeter. If the voltage is between 207 V and 241 V the voltage level is OK. If the voltage is outside this range advise the customer not to use Danfoss Online.

1.2.3 Mobile coverage

As Danfoss Online is based on wireless communication via GSM and the GPRS network it is important that there is a sufficiently strong signal. If coverage is not sufficient where the antenna is to be located and you find an alternative location, Danfoss Heat Pumps can supply antennas with longer cables or an extension cable. If you are unable to find a suitable alternative location for the antenna, advise the customer not to use Danfoss Online.

1.3 Subscription and storage of personal informationTo purchase Danfoss Online, the customer must complete and sign a subscription agreement and a consent form. By signing the consent form the customer agrees that personal information will be stored in Danfoss Heat Pumps’s data-base. When Danfoss Heat Pumps has received the signed agreement via fax or post we then activate the SIM card for Danfoss Online.

The subscription’s initial costs covers the subscription fee and data traffic up to 15 MB per year, which is more than suf-ficient for a year’s normal operation. Any excess traffic, arising from incorrect use, is charged to the customer at the end of the subscription period (according to the customer agreement).

An invoice to extend the subscription for one year is sent in good time before the subscription expires. If the customer desires, there is then time to cancel the subscription. This is clearly stated on the invoice. If notice of cancellation is not received before the date stated, the subscription is considered to have been extended for a further year. If the invoice is not paid before the specified final date, a reminder is sent which includes a fee for the reminder. The customer still has time to pay. If the payment is still not made the subscription is terminated. If no special circumstances have prevented payment, the matter may be referred to debt collectors (regulated by the customer agreement).


1.4 System operationDanfoss Heat Pumps is responsible for all operation of the Danfoss Online website, as well as the hardware. However, Danfoss Heat Pumps takes no responsibility for interruptions to operation arising from problems at the (mobile phone) operator. This is also regulated in the customer agreement.The subscriber may only connect equipment, SIM cards, software or similar, which is approved by Danfoss Heat Pumps and which is fault-free. Otherwise, Danfoss Heat Pumps does not accept liability for the operation of the system (accord-ing to the customer agreement).Danfoss Heat Pumps provides support for Danfoss Online. The customer should first contact the installer, who is also the administrator for the system. If this is not possible, Danfoss Heat Pumps’s customer services can be contacted.Apart from the above, according to the customer agreement, Danfoss Heat Pumps is only liable for direct loss and dam-age that affects the subscriber as a consequence of Danfoss Heat Pumps’s negligence in the provision of Danfoss Online. If Danfoss Heat Pumps’s failure is due to circumstances beyond the company’s control, for example, change in the law, labour disputes or similar, Danfoss Heat Pumps cannot be held liable for the consequences (regulated by the customer agreement).

1.5 Your role as a dealer/installerAs a dealer, or installer, you are the intermediary between Danfoss Heat Pumps and the end customers. A dealer can choose one or several installers to be the user interace for the customer, or take on that role themselves. In instances where the dealer chooses to use installers, the customers are divided into sub groups in Danfoss Online. The dealer is the responsible for the overall group, whilst each installer is responsible for their sub-group, i.e. customers that are con-nected to just that installer. The following is your responsibility:

Determining the conditions for Danfoss Online at the customer’s location1. Providing a quote for Danfoss Online2. Receiving the order from the customer and forwarding it to Danfoss Heat Pumps3. Installing Danfoss Online at the customer’s location4. In conjunction with installation, accepting the signed agreement from the customer and forwarding it to Danfoss 5.

2. Installation

2.1 Danfoss Online kitThe Danfoss Online kit contains the following:

modem•communications cable•antenna and cable•4 x plastic mountings•SIM card•

2.2 Installation of the modem and the SIM card

2.2.1 Overview

The image above shows how Danfoss Online is connected to the heat pump. The following parts are shown in the image:

2.2.2 Inserting the SIM card

Place the SIM card (5) in the modem, see the image on the previous page.There is a cover above the SIM card holder. First slide the cover to the side until a click is heard.1. Open the cover and insert the SIM card.2. Close the cover.3. Slide the cover back until a click is heard.4.

2.2.3 Connecting the modem in the heat pump

⚠ Always cut the power with the circuit breaker when installing electrical components.

Mount the 4 plastic plugs (2) in the electrical cabinet in the locations marked1. Fasten the modem (1) to the plugs, in the electrical cabinet2. Install the magnetic antenna (3) on top of the heat pump cabinet. Route the cable through the existing electrical 3.

lead-in on top of the cabinet and connect it to the modem shown. If there is no mobile coverage where the heat pump is installed, the antenna has to be moved to a location where there is coverage. Ensure that it is located on a surface where it can be attached using the magnet.

Connect the communications cable (4). 4. If the heat pump is not equipped with an expansion card (7), the communication cable must be connected directly to the control panel (6) from the modem (1). If the heat pump does have an expansion card (7) the communications cable must be connected to the expansion card (7) from the modem (1).

Connect the blue electrical cable marked N to zero and the black electrical cable for phase, marked 217, to terminal 5. block 217.

If you have a previous generation display with a green background, i.e. if your heat pump was manufactured before 01-03-2008, the node address in the menu “Selected unit” must be set to 2, or greater, to enable communication with Danfoss Online. Change the “Node” number as follows:

On the panel on your heat pump, hold down both the left and right arrow keys for at least 5 seconds, until “Service” 1. appears at the top of the menu window.

Press the down arrow until you get to Installation, then press the right arrow2. Press the down arrow until you get to Node. Change the value to 2 or greater.3. If other additional equipment is to be installed, set the necessary Node value for that function. Danfoss Online 4.

2.3 Meaning of the LEDs

The modem is communicating with the control card.1. Error in communication between modem and control card.2. The control card is communicating with the modem.3.

At start-up Led 1 must flash 2-3 times.•About 40 seconds later LED 3 should flash.•LED 3 should then flash every minute.•LED 2 must always be off otherwise there is an error.•

3. Administration

3.1 Description of the interfaceWhen you enter Danfoss Online you will see 6 main headings in the menu at the top of the page:

From the menu option “Show terminals” it is possible to search for existing installations connected to a specific user. You can search for a specific group of users. A group is the same as all users that are connected to a dealer. If the dealer uses installers, it is also possible to search on sub groups, i.e. all users who are connected to an installer. Here, it is also pos-sible to edit existing installations, delete or add new ones.

Under ”Selected unit” you can choose to view graphic representations of the heat pump’s parameters and also edit them, alternatively you can choose to view an overview in text format. You can also view and modify the installation’s system settings.

Use the menu option “Alarm handling”, to view the history of any alarms reported from the heat pump. The status of the alarm can be viewed and any corrections can be entered. You can choose to have alarms reported via SMS or e-mail. Note that alarms will be sent to the person logged in, the person who made the alarm management settings.

Under the option “Admin” you can edit the customer’s user information, view the users who have been entered and con-nect installations to users. You can also see if there are any installations that are not currently reporting.

From the “Support” option you can write a query and send it to Danfoss Online support.

Click on ”Logout” to exit Danfoss Online.


3.2 Logging in and logging outDanfoss online can be found at http://www.heatpumps.online.Danfoss.com/. The following login page appears:

The user name and password are automatically sent to the e-mail address given at registration. Both the user name and password must consist of at least four characters each and are case sensitive. Therefore, to log in to the system it is nec-essary to enter the details correctly.

When you wish to exit Danfoss Online, you must logout to prevent any unauthorized persons from using the system. If you forget to logout, you will be logged out automatically after 20 minutes. You can logout by clicking on “Logout” at the far right of the menu, at the top of the page.


3.3 Show terminalsFrom the “Show terminals” option, it is possible to search for and edit existing installations. It is also possible to add new units. You can even search for specific groups of users, i.e. all users that are connected to a specific dealer.

After logging in you are directed to this page:

In the left-hand menu, you can browse down the levels to find the company or group in which you are interested. If you click on a company name under ”Enterprises” in the menu, three buttons appear in the search box, ”Search”. ”Add” and ”Edit”, see the image below. By using these buttons you can search for a group, add new groups and modify the details of a group name. You can also delete groups, select a group as active and move marked installations to another group.

When you have selected a group you can search the installations that are connected to different users in the selected group. Click “Search installations” to show the installations.

You can now see all the installations that are connected to the relevant user. Information about any active alarms on an installation is shown here, as well as the installation’s name, modem telephone number, the group to which the installa-tion belongs and with which company the installations are connected.By clicking on the name of the installation you wish to see in more detail, a graphic overview is displayed, which can also be found from the “Selected unit” option, at the top of the page.

The following appears by clicking in the Advanced box. You can then search for installations by serial number, telephone number, SIM card number, and installation name or installation time.

3.4 Selected unitFrom this menu, the graphic representations of the heat pump’s parameters can be selected. Alternatively, you can choose to view the same data as text. In this view, the parameters that are editable can be modified, as can the system settings for the unit.

3.4.1 Graphic mode

When this page appears, the connection between the modem and the server is being made. This is indicated by the word “Connecting”, above the grey fields in the image, and by the rotating image next to the word, see the text circled in green in the above image. The last time the system was on-line is shown here; date and time. The text changes to “Online” when the connection has been made. At the same time, all data in the grey fields is updated with the current values.

There are four icons to the right of the green marked text. The icon to the far left is a link to this page, graphic mode. If you click on the next icon, (HP inside) a page showing the inside of the heat pump appears.

On the left, in the grey fields, ‘hand’ or ‘graph’ symbols are displayed. The ‘hand’ indicates that the values next to it can be modified. The ‘graph’ indicates that there is a graphical history for the values at its side.

This page shows a more detailed view of the heat pump parameters. Here you can see more editable parameters and log values than in the graphic mode. For a description of these, please refer to the heat pump maintenance instructions.

HP operating statusThis page has a similar appearance to the above image, but only shows the current status of the pump’s various values. This gives you an operational overview of the pump in order to set diagnostics.

Status reportThe last icon, to the right of the above, cannot be clicked but shows different icons that indicate the current status of the heat pump. The following symbols are used:

If you click on the hand next to a value, a window like this pops up:

Here you can change the parameter you have selected. Under the box where you enter the value, there are parameter values that keep you within the correct range.

If you click on the “graph” symbol, the following window opens:

In this window choose the graph format and see when the values were logged. Select the time interval for displaying the curves. If you want to view parameters other than the one selected, they can also be selected from this window.

If you click on the “Zoom out” button, the log for a longer period is displayed. You can zoom out a number of times to get an overview of a longer period. See image below. Using the mouse, you can also mark a time interval directly in the graph to zoom in on a specific interval.

If you click on “Choose start day”, a calendar appears in which you can choose the date from which to display the log. See image below.

3.4.2 Text overview

Under the option “Selected unit”, you can select “Text mode”. The same date, as in the graphic mode, is then presented as a table.

3.4.3 Settings

From “Unit set up”, under the “Selected unit” option, you can view and modify the system settings for the unit. You can change the name and address of the installation, unit status as well as the trend interval. Normally, you do not need to alter the unit status; this is done by the supplier or installer at installation. The trend interval is an important parameter. Here you can control the monitoring of your heat pump as required. For example, if you want more control over the parameters during a certain period you can choose a shorter logging interval, to obtain more precise diagrams. However, always logging on with short intervals is not recommended, as this means a greater load on the network. A normal guideline for this parameter is 2 hours.If you hold the mouse cursor over the information symbol, the following information appears:

GSM network – the network the system is using for communicating•SIM id – id number of the SIM card•Firmware – the program version of the modem •Prog ver – Danfoss Heat Pumps’s Java version •RSSI – the current reception status in the network.•

3.5 Alarm handlingFrom this option, you can view the record of alarms reported by the heat pump. You can also view the status of the alarm on each occasion, and enter any configuration changes. You can also determine how you want to receive alarm notifications from the pump; you can select to receive the information by SMS or e-mail.

3.5.1 Alarm history

With “Alarm history”, under the “Alarm handling option”, it is possible to view all the alarms reported in the system. You can also view the status of the alarm at the current time. These are indicated by three symbols; a red circle indicates that no action has been taken, a yellow triangle indicates that action is underway and a green square indicates that the alarm has been rectified. In the table you can read out at what time the alarm occurred and its type.

3.5.2 Alarm via E-mail/SMS

Depending on the agreement with the customer, here you can specify how you and/or the customer wish to be notified about an alarm and to whom the alarm is to be sent. The alarm always goes to the customer and if the agreement states that the installer is to monitor the pump, the alarm is also sent there. You can choose to receive the information via e-mail or SMS. The message is then sent to the e-mail address or the mobile number you gave when registering.If you check the option “Extra”, you can enter a further e-mail address or mobile number in the field above the table. This option can be used, for example, if you are away and wish the alarm to go temporarily to somebody else.

3.6 AdminIn this window you can administer the customer details, view the users entered and units connected to users. You can also remove units from a user. If there are any units that are not reporting currently, this can be seen here.

3.6.1 My user account

On this page, the customer can administer the information for their user account. It is also possible to choose which lan-guage you want the user interface to be in. Swedish, English and German are the choices currently available.

3.6.2 Show all users

This page shows all registered users for a group (dealer) in the system. Here it is possible to see which permissions the relevant user has, except contact information and password. You can also add further users.

3.6.3 Connect installations

Here you connect units together with the end customer. At the foot of the page there is a scroll bar, where you can see all the units that are not connected to the end customer. From the list choose the units you wish to connect to a specific user and then click “Add”.

3.6.4 Off-line units

On this page it is possible to see if there is one or more units that are not currently on-line. You can see which company the unit is connected to, its ID, its name, the telephone number that is registered for the unit and the time of last log.

4 Example – to add a user and connect a unit to it

4.1 To add a userLog into the system1. At the top of the menu, select “Admin” -> “Show all users”. The following then appears: 2.

The new user has now been added to Danfoss Online and appears in the user list. However, the user is not yet connect-ed to any installations.

4.2 To connect/remove an installation to/from a user

From the top menu, select “Admin” -> “Connect installations”. The following then appears: 1.

At the top of the image the number of installations connected to the user are shown, as well as the user’s name, e-mail and the user’s role, for example Customer. Below this list is another list containing all installations that are not yet connected to a user.

After each user there is an “edit” button. Click on the button for the user to whom you wish to connect the installa-2. tion. The following appears:

A list is shown containing the units that can be connected to the selected user. Under the list the installations that are already connected to the user are shown. Here you can either disconnect units from a customer or add new ones. To add: select a unit from the list and click “add”. To remove: select an installation from the lower list and click “delete”, which appears as a clickable button when installations are connected.

5 Example – to add an installer/group and to edit it

5.1 Add an installer/groupOn the first page, Show terminals, after logging in, carry out the following:

Select the company you wish to add to a group under “Enterprises”1. Click “Add” at the top right of the window. 2.

The following window then appears:

Enter the group’s/installer’s name and click “Add”. 3.

The new group can now be seen in the tree at the left of the page.

5.2 Change properties for installer/groupSelect the group from the list to the left, under “Enterprises”1. Click “Edit” at the top right of the window. 2.

The following window then appears:

Here you can change name, delete the group and select a group as active. You can also move installations to the group. You can do this by clicking “Search” and marking the installations you wish to move. Then go to this page and click “Move to group”.
